How Long Until I Get My Dog?
A number of our new dogs came into care with
heartworms.
We typically complete the treatment in foster care, but if one of these
Goldens captures YOUR heart & you’re willing to take him or her through the
treatment, please discuss it with us! We’ll be happy to give you detailed
instructions on the dog’s care (activity restriction is VERY important), and of
course we will cover the cost at one of our approved clinics.
Gold Ribbon Rescue rescues and rehomes second-chance Golden Retrievers
who can find homes who will offer them the medical care and attention
needed by the breed. We do not have the qualifications to train
service dogs, nor do we have the expertise to be able to determine if
a rescued Golden would qualify as a good service dog. ADOPTION: THE ADJUSTMENT PERIOD - THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW Generally, we don't adopt to families with children under five (5) years of age. We only make exceptions to families that can demonstrate to our satisfaction that all children under 5 have lived with and successfully interacted with large dogs. This policy is for the benefit of your children. The goal is to make the adoption process more realistic and set the realistic expectations for prospective applicants.

Happily adopted dogs from this past year, and previous years. If only a heart of gold were enough to protect our dogs from heartworms! We have taken in a
record number of heartworm-positive Golden Retrievers, all of whom will
need treatment before they are ready for their forever homes. Some of the
wonderful dogs below need time to gain or lose weight or just get
healthier overall before they can begin their treatment. But in time—maybe
a month or two, maybe a good bit longer—they’ll be healthy and ready to
fly out the adoption door! Our adoption fees alone
are not enough to cover the cost of heartworm treatments.
