“Please keep these two pups together if at all possible.  They’ve been together since birth.”

Returning to military service, Sable and Morgan’s owner called Gold Ribbon Rescue requesting help with placing her two goldens before she received her orders to report.

So GRR volunteers rushed over to meet these two chestnut colored and almost identical pups.

After spending a few weeks in foster care, these two girls seem too good to be true.  But according to their foster mom, these loveable goldens are indeed the finest examples of their breed.

Sable and Morgan’s foster mom raves about how these two pups are the “best dogs she’s ever had.”  She even jokingly laughed off the possibility of giving up her own dogs to replace them with Sable and Morgan—simply because they are such a joy in her home.

She states that these two pups are so polite: they won’t come in from outside unless they are given a command; they sit patiently for their food;  they do not try to sneak a bite from each other’s food bowl; and they play gently together as if they know just how careful they need to be.  They are often seen lounging around their home, affectionately nudging each other’s head.

Their relationship can only be described as bonded by blood.

Though these pups have “retriever” attached to their breed name, neither Sable nor Morgan fetch anything—not a stick and not even a tennis ball.  And though some potential adoptive families may be disappointed by this fact, there’s a positive trade off for this behavior—neither dog engages in any inappropriate chewing.  Shoes, socks, and toys are of no interest.

Both Sable and Morgan take cues from their humans and are able to adapt well to any environment.  When their foster family wants to lounge around and watch a movie, Sable and Morgan lay peacefully snoozing next to them.  In fact, Sable has taken a liking to her foster brother who seems to be going through those “lovely” teenage years.  Though he may not let anyone get too close to him, Sable’s sweet nature convinces him to let down his guard; she often  trots into his room, lays down next to him, and puts her paws around him as if giving a hug.

When their foster mom first began taking these two pups for walks, she felt as if they hadn’t been exercised on a leash for quite some time.  In fact, on their first walk together, both their foster mom and her daughter each had a pup to themselves.  Simultaneously, both Sable and Morgan discovered a lone but brave squirrel crossing the sidewalk in front of them.  Before the humans could tighten their grip, Sable and Morgan lunged (as the leashes went flying), and the two pups scurried after the squirrel!

Now after about seven walks under their belt (or collar), foster mom states she walks both of them in one hand without difficulty.

Her only concern, says foster mom, is for Sable and her health.  Though Morgan easily adjusted to everything that comes with moving homes, Sable has not been so lucky.  Though both goldens are underweight, Sable seems to have a stomach bug—which after visiting the vet, they aren’t completely sure what is the cause of her discomfort.

Because this issue did not show up until a few days after she entered into foster care, both the vet and Sable’s foster mom are working on solutions.  After three days of a new diet regime (a mixture of sweet potatoes and quality food), Sable is improving.

For two days, Sable visited the vet for observation, and Morgan was left to run around with the foster family’s other dogs.  Though Morgan played nicely with her doggie siblings, when Sable returned, it was clear both missed each other deeply.  For what seemed like forever, both pups licked and licked one another.

Since Sable and Morgan are such a bonded pair, GRR’s goal is to have them adopted as a pair.  And because they are so well-behaved, mild mannered and loving towards all, these two pups would thrive in any household.
