MATCHED

Ally has been matched to her forever home, but every GRR dog deserves a place on the website!

It was New Year’s Day when a lady returning from an out-of-town trip pulled in at a rest stop on the outskirts of town. Other folks were there, too, pausing for a break from the road—and among them was a Golden Retriever. The  young girl hopefully approached first one car, then another, wagging her tail and trying to climb in. It didn’t take long to realize that she’d likely been dumped—and that she was definitely at risk, alone on a darkening winter day, ownerless, with cars and trucks rumbling past. “I can’t just leave her here,” the lady at once decided, and invited Miss Ally to hop on into the backseat. She knew she wouldn’t be able to keep Ally in addition to her own dog (“one is enough for me,” she told our Hotline volunteer), but she was determined to find a home for the abandoned gal. “She’s just a sweet little puppy. Lots of fleas but  I gave her a good bath. She’s got a lot of little nicks and scrapes on her face but otherwise seems healthy. Gets along great with everyone.”

A check-up showed that Ally was heartworm negative (hooray!), and as soon as her spay surgery was completed, she moved right in with a family who had been waiting for a dog just like her. Is it a good match? Well… “Thank you so much for all your efforts, time, and energy spent to match lost Goldens to families,” says Ally’s new mom. “They say a picture speaks a thousand words, so let’s test that. Here’s Ally:

Heading home.....

Then making herself at home.... Oh, yeah, comfy now!”

As the saying goes: Never underestimate what the love of a single caring heart can do.  Thanks to a tender-hearted stranger, Ally got a brand-new life as GRR’s very first rescue of 2012. What a happy start to the year for us all!
