You know how the saying goes: A Dollar saved is, well, a million-dollar Golden earned!
The fund, er, hound transfer all started with a Friday afternoon alert from the shelter: “Do you guys want to take a look at this one? Found stray, just a youngster, can go on Monday if not claimed.” Reports from GRR’s intake team were glowing: “Just a big puppy who is very anxious about his future. Very interested in meeting, greeting, and pleasing his visitors. He’s a sweetheart.”
Not to mention the fact that he’s gorgeous! Beautiful eyes, beautiful teeth, pretty blonde fur that will only get glossier and thicker with good nutrition.
A
few days later, the shelter was (happily) one Dollar shorter… and the
ready-and-waiting foster home, who had already opened a new safety deposit
crate, got the guest all checked in. Now, he may have started out inexperienced
and anxious – but you can bet your bottom dollar that this pup is a clever boy
and a fast learner! He was snarly to his foster dog brothers and sisters at
first (the scars on his nose & hind legs make us think he’s been picked on
earlier in life), but within 48 hours he’d become a full-fledged member of the
pack. “He plays with the less dominant dogs and respects the more dominant
ones.” He started out whirling, twirling, sitting down, and doing everything
else he could think of to escape the leash, which he’d clearly never encountered
before – but again, after two days: “Amazing progress.
He now takes long walks with our pack and is no longer nervous.
He doesn't pull, but does occasionally lunge against the leash when
something alarms him. In a couple more days he’ll be loving his walks.”
Dollar got top marks from his foster dad as “one of the most beautiful fosters
we have ever had. One of the most
affectionate fosters we have ever had.
One of the most obedient fosters we have ever had. This is one really
nice dog who deserves to be loved to pieces.
He will return the favor.”
Our matchmakers already had a family in mind, and those folks just couldn’t wait
to meet their new boy. After one afternoon – sold through the power of Dollar
diplomacy! The idea was to send Dollar to their home after he’d recuperated from
his neuter surgery, but hmm, somehow he wound up moving house a week early.
It’s Dollar to doughnuts that this is the start to a happy ending for all!
