Peaches
Peaches, age 9
MATCHED
What on earth has been
happening to Peaches over the past
few months? Has she disappeared?
Not at all! But she
IS disappearing—and that’s a good thing! She has been on a diet and has taken a
good few pounds off of her frame, as her photos show. She’s still hefty, but
that excess freight is slowly but surely coming off. Go, Peaches!
At night, I substitute green beans for half her food. She was skeptical
of the green stuff in her bowl at first but now she really likes her veggies and
chows down!
Since Peaches
arrived, she has settled in nicely to our routine. She has a few favorite spots
in the house where she likes to snooze, and at night she sleeps on the floor
right next to the bed. We go for nightly walks with our cocker spaniel friends
across the street and she really looks forward to, and enjoys, our walks through
the neighborhood. Peaches especially likes it when we stop to talk to neighbors
and she gets petted and loved on.
Peaches like to chew
on stuffed toys. She makes it her mission to get all the stuffing out and then
she will chew them up and leave little pieces around the house. Peaches love to
get brushed and also loves being scratched and petted. She is a great companion
and is ready to find her forever home! (And P.S., if you can take her on extra
walks every day, she would adore it, and it would help with her ongoing fitness
program, too!)
Update 7/20/12:
Check out our lovely Miss Peaches enjoying the bluebonnets and a good roll in some (finally) rain-soaked grass! That green-bean diet has really kicked in for our Miss Soon-Svelte-To-Be!
Updated 3/27/12
There once was a:
Pleasingly
plump girl, who loved to
Eat; BUT!
she
Ate
and ate and ate until she became:
Colossal!
Huge!
Enormous!
SIXTY
pounds overweight!
However…this doesn’t
stop our girl from being:
Perky,
Eager
to socialize,
All
about the pets,
Cheerful,
Happy—AND
Eventually
Super
Svelte!
Tipping the scales
at a whopping 134 lbs, adorable Peaches has about half her body weight to lose.
Which makes her our favorite kind of project dog! All that’s needed is a
nutritious, lean diet and slowly increasing exercise, and within a year or so
she’ll have a trim waistline, much healthier joints, and a real spring in her
step – even at her current weight, she bounces a little and wants to play.
Her history? Well –
Peaches originally belonged to someone out in the countryside, where she was an
outdoor dog. For reasons unknown, that person's husband said: “This dog has got
to go!” so Peaches found herself posted on Craigslist. The next owner soon went
and collected her. “She was pretty tubby then,” said the owner ruefully, “and my
house she was best pals with my mom, who was devoted to her but not healthy
enough to walk her or anything.” Peaches mostly watched TV and snacked and kept
her new friend company. And then… elderly mom took ill, there was a move,
schedules changed… and the owner contacted rescue for help. Which is why the
resilient Peaches is making yet another start.
One of the most
rewarding jobs in rescue is ahead for some lucky family! Even at her super size,
Peaches has real zip and loves to shake stuffed toys. She will soon be ready to
be your partner in all things fun and slimming. She’s spayed, heartworm
negative, and looking forward to a happy and healthy new life.
