Marley
Marley, age 3 1/2
AVAILA![]()
Marley first
appeared on GRR’s radar in February 2010, when he wound up stray at the shelter.
Just as we were ready to bring him in, his owners reclaimed him—but nearly 2 1/2
years later (on July 31, 2012), here he was again! As we learned from the staff,
the original owners had given him away to someone else in June of this year, but
that person couldn’t care for him: “He’s nice and friendly; he’s gentle &
playful with the kids; he’s relaxed, respectful, and really tolerant with other
dogs. But I just don’t have time for him and I really can’t afford even to feed
him.”
This time around,
the slightly tubby redhead was whisked away from the shelter the same day he
arrived, and now he’s camping out in a “stash home” for just a few days until he
heads to a longer-term foster family who can take him through heartworm
treatment. He’s getting nothing but five-star ratings so far:
After just 25
hours in our home he’s doing great. Took all his meds today without a peep.
Good Boy!
He is quite
friendly with our Pit mix Mia and accepts her invitations to play, but I have to
break them up as she is really too rowdy for a HW+ boy. Today I left him baby
gated and Mia crated in the same room for about 1 1/2 hours while I went out…
came back to find everything in order and nothing chewed up. Good Boy!
He slept on the
floor in our bedroom last night. Tried to crawl into the bed but with a sturdy
“no” about three times he reluctantly stayed on the floor. Good Boy!
I have not tried
to walk him but I brushed him forever yesterday and I swear he lost five pounds.
I have never seen so much undercoat and hair flying around a dog. He let me
brush and pull at him forever... Good Boy!
We’d also like to
mention that Marley’s previous owner kept him outdoors, so for him to be doing
this well living inside so quickly (just one accident at the very start, and
none since then!) earns him another Good Boy for sure!
