Angel

#12-156 Angel, update 11/28

MATCHED

This just in from Angel’s foster family:

Angel was terrific with our grandboys, ages 7 and 10, on Thanksgiving Day. She was very excited to meet them when they arrived, even more excited than she gets when she meets adults.  She loves kids!  She was actually very gentle and not at all rowdy. They brushed her and hugged her.   They played fetch, but as she does not automatically give up the ball, they were leery of taking it from her mouth.

While I cooked Thanksgiving dinner, Angel lived up to her name—she was so good! She didn’t get into any of the food, just lay quietly in the kitchen, “supervising.” In fact, she has never counter-surfed for anything left on the counters—food, toys, you name it.  But when she first came, she did want to get close to our cockatiel!  After a few days though, she mostly ignored her feathered “sibling.”

She is pulling on the leash more (feeling better & stronger, no doubt) and could stand some training there. Her coat is feeling much softer, thanks to a better diet and a daily fish oil cap.

She just had her spay surgery on Tuesday, November 27, so she’ll be ready for her new home after just one more week!

Update 11/21/12:

Sweet, calm, and easygoing, pretty Angel is another one of those “mystery” strays… as in, why wasn’t anyone looking for her? “She knows some basic obedience commands; she is obviously someone’s pet,” said the shelter manager. “She has a kind of ‘choppy’ shave job on her fur but she is definitely a Golden. She goes off of hold at 12:48PM on Saturday if you are interested.”

Can you guess who was at the shelter at 12:48 PM on Saturday! Angel’s foster family collected her in person:

“We picked up Angel and she rode home just fine.   She loves to be petted and seems gentle and sweet-natured—and definitely glad to be out of the shelter! She sleeps all through the night in our bedroom on the floor. She is potty trained, eats well and likes a lot of attention. We are off to a good start.”

A week or so on, Angel’s foster folks have learned that she likes to chase after a ball and loves going for a walk on the leash.  She pulls just a little as she is so eager to walk faster.  She loves people and thinks everyone wants to greet her and love on her.  Loves going for a ride in the car where she sits in the back of the CRV and looks out the window the entire drive.

Angel gets along with other large-breed dogs fine.  But one important thing we’ve discovered so far is that this gal needs to go to a NO-CAT home. She’s a serious cat chaser for sure—and her foster family thinks she might chase tiny dogs, too. “When we are out walking, she seems to check out little dogs as if she’s thinking, ‘Is that supposed to be a dog?? It’s cat-sized and maybe I should pursue it!’ It’s not the same open, friendly interest she shows toward larger dogs. So her family will just have to be aware and be careful in this situation.”

Angel’s foster mom also wonders whether she really did have a bad haircut, the way the shelter thought, or whether her fur is just growing out into an adult coat – after all, she’s still just puppy-age!

Angel will have her spay surgery on Tuesday November 27, and a week or so after that she will be all ready for her new home.
