Miles
#12-165 Miles
Weight: 65 pounds
AVAILABLE
Say hello to handsome Miles, who came to GRR when his owner’s circumstances
changed. Leaving the only home he’d
ever known, Miles was a bit unsettled for a couple of days as he figured out his
new world. The good news: he’s made
himself right at home.
He has excellent house (and downtown office) manners and wonderful skills with
dogs. He shares his foster home
with three other Golden friends, and they share antlers and tennis balls, ride
to work together with their “dad” every day, play tug-o-war without anyone
needing to win, and sleep side by side, paw to paw.
It’s adorable! He’s met a
multitude of dogs in our neighbor and likes them all.
Breakfast and dinner times find Miles waiting patiently for his bowl to
be put down then he eats heartily.
He doesn’t have a protective bone his body with human or canine.
Miles loves walks and is a gem on leash.
He’s now used to two to three walks/runs a day, starting with a
before-daylight walk of 3 miles.
He’d make a great running partner because he trots happily alongside.
When he first came, he was afraid of many things he encountered on walks:
spooky trashcans sitting on the curb, cars going by, and bicyclists.
Over time he’s become more confident.
His first outing to the bike park downtown was a bit frightening, too.
All those bikes zipping up mounds of dirt and twirling about took some getting
used to, but he’s learned the people who ride them are friendly.
A walk to the bank was great until that funny thing in the tube came
torpedoing his way…but it’s not so bad now that he’s learned it contains doggie
treats.
He’s sweet, affectionate, and a cuddle bug, once he gets to know you, but his
initial response to new people is one of caution.
Upon meeting someone new, he will back away and it takes him a while to
warm up. Boisterous kids are
not his cup of tea, but he enjoys older kids who are comfortable around dogs and
will play ball with him.
Tennis balls are his favorite toy. He loves retrieving and is learning to bring
them back. A favorite game is letting the ball roll under something then trying
to figure out how to get it back out. Be warned though:
the fuzzy skin on a tennis ball won’t last long around Miles.
His ideal home: one with another
calm, happy dog for a playmate; humans who will include him in their lives; and
one that will embrace his sweet, gentle personality.
