HoneyBelle

HoneyBelle,  age 12 1/2

AVAILABLE

Update 10/12/12:

Happy Honey Belle is continuing to flourish in her foster home, keeping her humans company and spending plenty of time with her dog pals, too. She did have a lump in her mouth that was causing her some irritation, so last week she went to the vet to have it removed. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a melanoma (a cancerous tumor). But luckily, the histopathology lab classed it as “low-grade” – much less of a worry than if it had been high-grade. The vet removed as much tissue around the tumor as possible and cauterized the area to help kill any suspicious cells. Honey’s still available for adoption—her new home should just watch for recurrence and contact the vet promptly if anything comes back. (We have reason for optimism—one of our 2008 dogs had a similar tumor removed four years ago, at the age of nine, and she’s still doing well now!)

Update 9/28/12:

Cute and curly-haired, this delightful mature lady comes to GRR from a very special owner, who was just a fifth grader when she saw an ad in the paper: “3-year-old female Golden for sale.” She emptied out her piggybank & collected all her pocket money and bought Honey. That was nine years ago, and one look at this dog tells you how much she has been loved. She’s healthy, friendly, and self-confident. Sadly, family circumstances meant a move to a no-dogs-allowed apartment, and you can’t hide a Golden! …so the owner began hunting for a new family for Honey. “She's wonderful and I just want her settled in a home who will love her and give her lots of attention.”

Honey’s foster mom has this glowing report:

Honey Belle is just as sweet as they come, with lots of life and energy.  For a 12 1/2-year-old, she has a ton of spunk! She has chased a tennis ball and can go for a 15-minute walk (she’s excellent on lead). She’s a real lady in the house and fit right in with the pack. She’s a great car rider and snoozed on the ride here. She takes treats with a very gentle mouth. She enjoys her meals of kibble mixed with veggies and fruit (squash, pears, carrots, sweet potato) and cleans her plate. And needless to say, she is fully housebroken and completely trustworthy indoors.

Besides being fine with other dogs, she’s great with cats—in her former home, two cats pawed at her, lay on her, taunted her & she took it all in stride. Now that’s a good dog!

Never mind that she may be a little older than some other GRR Goldens, she has lots of loving to give to a family that can spend time with her! In her former family, Honey was able to go each week to an Assisted Care & Alzheimer’s Care Center, where she shared her Golden Love with the residents—and they loved her. She would love to continue applying her Therapy Dog skills in her new family—whether just at home, or out and about! She get along so well with cats and dogs that she’s probably love to be in a home with other pets, too.

This darling dog is a gem!
