Turk
#12-164 Turk, age 1
Weight: 60 pounds
Matched
“You’ll love him.”
Of course our intake evaluator had a lot more to say about this puppy bundle of
energy (including, “Once you see him, it’s all over!”), but we like the capsule
summary the best! Named for the Thanksgiving holiday – since he was found
trotting around a rural neighborhood just before the long weekend – the gangly
1-year-old was unperturbed by his shelter stay… too busy investigating the new
sights & smells and meeting everyone. We had to laugh when scrolling through the
intake photos at high speed… you could really see how Turk was up, down,
backwards, forwards, sideways and into everything!
His foster mom says:
Turk is real sweet, super energetic and goofy!
He was neutered right after intake and it’s been a challenge to keep him
calm. He is still a puppy for sure, jumps up to say hello, gets very excited and
bouncy when he meets anyone (though he does listen when you tell him DOWN). He
gets along well with our little terrier mix, likes nothing better than a good
game of tug, and would love to really cut loose and romp and wrestle (but that’s
on hold just until his post-op exercise restriction ends). He is gradually
meeting our cat: he’s very curious and has gone nose to nose with us holding his
collar, but he’d definitely be up for a game of chase if the kitty decided to
take off.
Turk does not like the crate, so we’ve been gating him in a small room when
we’re not home. He’s only had one accident, so we’re planning on letting him
roam a larger area pretty soon. In the car, though, he does need a crate or a
good harness for everyone’s safety, as he tends to jump around.
This guy is a little thin for his frame right now, but with his appetite, that
will change soon! He’ll will eat any food you put down in seconds! He doesn’t
care if other dogs are nearby when he’s chowing down, though.
Playful Turk will bring you toys but hasn’t quite figured out that he has to let
go of them if he wants to play chase. He is learning to walk on the Gentle
Leader and coming along well, and he’s mastering his basic commands, too. This
high-energy, outgoing, social boy needs an active, puppy-savvy home who will
enjoy his puppy silliness and have a blast training him, exercising with him,
and taking him around and about!
