Cheater

Age 4 1/2
HEARTWORM POSITIVE

My name is Cheater, and some will say: “Cheaters never win.” However, I’m here to tell you that ever since GRR took me in, I have been winning every day. Sure, I have a couple of issues, like being heartworm positive, but they are going to take care of me. Speaking of being taken care of, my foster daddy is doing a great job. I need to gain some weight and he is a gourmet cook – so he gives me little extra treats that include some pretty good stuff, like lamb stew and Italian sausage with pigeon peas. He even roasted a whole turkey just for me; well, me and the other five dogs – and he makes home-made gravy from the drippings for us.

I have to be on exercise restriction for now, so my foster daddy does not know just how active I can be, but he sure can tell just how loving I can be. I sleep with him, I sit near him, and I even let him comb and pet me – he seems to like to do that, so I put up with it (yes, I am grinning right now). My foster daddy has not seen me around cats yet, so he is not sure how I will react – but I am a good dog, I am.

I do like to chew on paper left around, but that helps my daddy remember to pick up; I do try to be helpful that way. I do not play with balls, but I found out I like to chew on the pieces of antler he bought from GRR. I get on the couch with my daddy, I am usually very quiet, and I do not counter-surf – see, I am a good boy.

I have a whitish face, but I’m not really that old, just distinguished – like my foster daddy. If you want to help me keep “cheating the odds,” please consider giving me a forever home.

PS For inquiring minds who want to know how I got my name: The nice lady who met me at the pound thought I must be pretty “senior” because of my gray face, but then she noticed my beautiful sparkly white teeth and said I was definitely cheating my age! Of course it turned out that I am just barely past my teens, like foster dad said, but the name stuck.

PPS If you would like to adopt me before I have my heartworm treatment, that is fine! GRR will pay for the cost of the treatment at one of our approved vets, and they will tell you all about how to take care of me during the process.
