Tippy

Tippy, age 6

MATCHED TO FOSTER PEND ADOPT HOME

Update 5/17/12:

This curly-coated redhead comes to GRR from a loving, concerned owner whose life had changed to involve almost constant out-of-town business travel—he was away more than he was at home. He realized that his Golden wasn’t getting the care and attention she needed, so he turned to GRR for help. Tippy has gone straight to a foster-to-adopt home—no surprise, since she is such a nice girl! She’s heartworm negative and overall, quite healthy – the main thing she needed was intensive salon treatment for her tangled coiffure! Here’s more from her foster dad:

We picked Tippy up on a Friday evening, just as the rain began to subside.  The sun on one side, dark clouds on the other and there we were with Tippy, right smack dab in the middle as a rainbow appeared.  Like a sign that this little lady will have the opportunity to enjoy the life she deserves.

Upon arrival at our home, Tippy was ready for a nice walk.  The first lap was extremely interesting as it was our first experience with two Goldens and her first outing with a lead.  She pulled quite hard right out of the gate and kept pulling all the way aroung the block... in every direction.  Halfway around the block, for lap two, the pulling gradually subsided and as we rounded the corner for lap number three, she walked by my side calmly with no pulling whatsoever.  Once she received a tour of our home, Tippy was ready for another bath: despite two baths over the previous two days, she was still smelling a little too “doggy.” She really seemed to enjoy her repeat bath.  That, along with a dose of Bed Head dog perfume, and she was sitting pretty.

This girl is still learning about mealtime etiquette! She dove into the bowl of food that I prepared for her before it left my hands.  Turned around to wash my hands and Tippy beat me to the sink, having consumed an entire cup of food in record time.  After her meal and a really big drink of water, Tippy received a very nice brushing and another dose of doggy perfume.  For being such a good girl, she received a Greenie, which almost disappeared in one large chomp.

Her eyes are striking.  Beautiful brown eyes that have a story to tell.  She will take loving no matter who is offering it, however, this girl is a man's dog.  She follows me everywhere I go and vocalizes with an interesting yodel when she's next to our girl Annie and seeking attention.

The next day Tippy was introduced to the backyard.  Behind the 6-foot privacy fence are our neighbors’ dogs—two large-breed dogs that love to bark.  They must have been too close to the fence, because Tippy went over and barked them back into their doghouse.  Lots of love, two meals, lots of water, several walks, more grooming, and this girl is getting the hang of how we roll.

Day three and we determine that Tippy is afraid of the vacuum cleaner.  When it was introduced into the living room, she bolted for the bedroom and dove into her doggy bed.  Lots more loving and the hardened eyes that entered our home two days earlier begin to soften.

Day four and Tippy gets another Greenie after a fun brushing session.  This time, however, the Greenie won.  She took it and turned to give it a massive chomp.  Unfortunately, it got lodged onto her teeth and she could not get it unstuck so she walked around the kitchen drooling until I could get close enough for an assist.

That's all for now. She is doing great!
