Malibu

Malibu, age 1 1/2

AVAILABLE SOON

Update 7/1/12:

Hi, my name is Malibu, and I am an incredibly loving pup. All I want is for you to love me in return. I am very loyal and I won't stray far—when I am outside in the yard, I use the patio as my “home base,” and I will venture off it if you do! When we go walking, I am all about sticking by your side (unless I am distracted by bunnies or my foster sister Kyleigh.) I recently did a 4.5 mile hike and loved it! I also like water. I am not a fanatic like my foster sis, but I will take a little dip to cool off or to take a drink.

I love to eat, but I am learning that I will get regular meals—so I don't have to eat everything you give me all at one time really fast. I drink lots of water, so please make sure I have plenty. I can do a trick or two as well! I can stand on my back legs like a human and I can shake. I need toys that are tough. Those stuffed animals last around two seconds. It’s two seconds of pure fun, though!

I have accidents sometimes in the house but my foster mom is being really patient with me and making sure I go when I am outside. I am learning to do that kind of business when we are walking, but I am still learning. I even get a treat when I go where I am supposed to, yippee!

My smile is a little crooked because someone was mean to me and messed up some of my teeth in my past life, but that doesn't stop me from smiling. In fact, I am constantly smiling and wagging my tail because I am just so happy to be loved! I don't have a problem with other dogs, but I am an attention hog, so you can expect to pay a lot attention to me.

So as you can see I really like a lot of stuff. As for dislikes… hmmmmm… be careful with your feet around me—please don't lift your feet too fast near me to step over my leash or whatever, because I get really nervous. I guess that is my only real dislike! I pretty much like everything about everything! Well that is all for now! Hope to see you soon!

Update 6/20/12:

Quick, what does “Malibu” sound like to you? Sun, sand, sea, sportscars—in short, the carefree life! And now our little shelter Golden Malibu is going to have just the trouble-free life she deserves—quite a change from her adventures up until now. A farmer brought her to the pound just a week or so ago; she’d been abandoned on his property along with another dog and, after feeding the pair for a few days, be brought them in. “This happens all the time, and I just can’t feed and care for every dog who gets dumped on my land.” We can tell, too, that she had a litter not long ago, & that she endured some rough times as a pup: her bottom teeth look funny, and the vet thinks they must have been kicked in when she was tiny. (Never fear, dental care is on the schedule!)

Her foster mom says:

Malibu is doing well. She’s a perfect car rider and she actually knows how to heel on lead. She stays right by your side instead of pulling and lunging. In fact, she wants to be as close to her people as possible. She’d get right into your lap if you let her, but I’m discouraging this behavior because she’s too big for it! If I stand up she knows to desist.  She’s very eager to please.

Right now she’s way more interested in people than in other dogs. She gets on fine with my Golden Kyleigh, but so far she’s ignoring all invitations to play. She doesn’t seem too interested in water – she’ll get in and out, but compared to Ky (who’s a big swimmer) Malibu isn’t a surfer girl… not so far, anyway!

She sleeps right through the night, curled up in a ball on the bed. I think she will get housebroken pretty easily – she has the basic idea, and as I said, she’s eager to please. I feed her in her crate, and she’s A-OK with that.

Mali’s coat is a little shabby, likely a combination of poor diet and a recent litter. With good food and time, she’ll be pretty  & shiny as can be.

Spay surgery (and likely tooth extraction) is set for about ten days from now, and once she’s healed up from that, this little teenage mom will be all set for her new home. She needs a family who’s looking for a high-energy, affectionate girl—and one that will give her lots of exercise and all the attention she craves!
