Cinderella

#13-007 Cinderella, age 2-3 years

Updated 03/12/13

AVAILABLE TBA

HEARTWORM POSITIVE

Beautiful Cinderella is a dream come true.  Having been through quite the trauma (moving from animal shelter to foster home to having a litter of pups), Cinderella is finally able to enjoy the perks of royalty while living in her foster home.

Cinderella is the perfect role model for which all other aspiring princesses should look up to.  Calm around children, gentle with her owners, and playful with her other foster pups, Cinderella’s manners reflect everything a princess should be.  Cinderella seems to truly appreciate her daily walk—never pulling or tugging on the leash. She also relishes in her “beauty sleep” at night, never waking until morning.

Because of her princess status, Cinderella is awarded certain luxuries around her foster family’s home:  she is able to roam the house without supervision.

Since her puppies (“the royal family”) are now being adopted out, Cinderella has begun growing into her own self. Now that she no longer needs to protect her pack, foster mom says, “It took her a while to warm up to them, but now she has gotten to the point that she play fights with both my other dogs.”

Cinderella will be a royal addition to any family, but she must get healthy first.  She is scheduled for her spay surgery on March 21st.  In addition, since she is heartworm positive, she began a round of doxycycline which will end in about three weeks.  At that time, she will then undergo heartworm treatment.

Update: 02/07/13

If the glass slipper fits, wear it! Cinderella is proving herself a true princess in her foster home.

“I can't say enough about this gal and how perfect she is!  She does not counter-surf or get up on furniture. She is housetrained. She loves to play with my dogs and run out back chasing the ball. To see her transforming into a happy, carefree dog has been wonderful!  It's so satisfying to see her wagging her tail when she is getting loved on.”

Cinderella is a busy Golden these days: putting on weight (her ribs don’t show as much now), tending to her brood (and enjoying her “grown-up time” away from the pups, too!), resting up (she sleeps soundly all night long) and getting healthy. Like any good momma, she is protective of her babies and will give the other dogs a low growl if they get too near—but away from the puppies, she’s happy to be a playful young dog with her new friends. Foster mom adds, “She is a hurdler!  If you put up baby gates she will jump them or knock them down.  She definitely wants to roam around the house.”

Beautiful Cinderella is little more than a puppy herself, and once her Royal Family is adopted out (they’ll be ready to go on February 16), she’ll be waiting for that forever home who can help her get healthy & strong & heartworm free.

Update: 01/31/13

Prince William? Princess Kate? Royal babies, possibly twins?

 Ho hum… yawn… not interested!

Who needs all that gossip & speculation about the British crown when Austin is hosting some REAL royalty right this minute, and never mind about (potential) twins, WE have (real live) sextuplets!

The exciting Royal Visit entered the planning stages less than 24 hours before the guests arrived, when we got word that Princess Cinderella had appeared at a local shelter with her family in tow. The brown-eyed beauty with ravishingly long, silky ears and a sweet smile is also painfully skinny – all of her energy has been going to feed her six pudgy babies (five girls, one boy). “Momma is as sweet as she can be,” reported the somewhat flustered “hotel” staff (it’s not every day a Royal appears at the reception desk, not to mention seven of them!). The person who drove them here said they found her a month ago and decided today that they couldn't afford her any longer. I feel so bad for this girl.  The pictures do not show how thin she is. Please let us know if there is anything you can do to help.”

At about 5 1/2 weeks old, the pups are still  too young to leave mama: so if Mom was to be a GRR dog, that meant her black-and-white fluffballs would be too. “We’ll be there to pick them up tomorrow morning,” we decided. (No way were we passing up a chance to take in six princesses and a prince—what a glittering start to the year! Can’t you just see them with little tiaras on their heads? We can.)

No sign of Dad, and Cinderella, demonstrating her impeccable breeding & upper-crust etiquette, isn’t uttering a word of criticism about absentee fathers and lack of puppy support. It’s safe to say, however, that daddy was dark & handsome (we won’t know about the “tall” part for a while—but the vet thinks that Dad MAY be a Newfoundland!). What Cinderella DOES have to say is: “I am so grateful for all of my fairy godmothers: the shelter staff, the GRR intake team, and foster mom & hostess Mary. Even a princess needs a helping hand sometimes.”

With their soft, silky fur and short tadpole tails, the pups are adorable already, and they’ll only get cuter! And we know there’s half a Golden in each and every one of them. They seem very comfortable with lots of human handling and cuddling already, and they’ll be ready for their new families in just a few weeks. More news to come.

Mom Cinderella is heartworm positive (drat) and she needs to get as healthy as possible before spay and then HW treatment; but if there’s a family out there who’s eager to add a lovely girl (along with some blue-blooded regal luster) to the household and help Princess Cinderella through, just let us know.

Meanwhile, meet GRR’s Royal Family! The colors refer to the rick-rack “collars” they’ll be wearing to help us tell them apart:

 Princess Jasmine (Miss Purple)

Princess Pocahontas (Miss Green)

Princess Ariel (Miss Red)

Princess Sleeping Beauty (Miss Yellow; the smallest sister)

Princess Snow White (Miss Pink; she has the most white on her front paws)

 And of course:

Prince Charming, the biggest pup of all!
