Dolly

Dolly, age 8

AVAILABLE SOON - HEARTWORM POSITIVE

Update 7/11/12:

“We are gone too long every day and another family member took her companion dog and she is very lonely.”

Dolly’s owners were upfront with the Hotline volunteer about the reason they were surrendering their 8-year-old Golden girl: they just could not give her the attention every dog needs. “She loves kids, loves to be ‘momma’ to little dogs, loves older adults, and she really needs somebody to pay attention to her.” And we certainly agreed that it was time to find this nice girl a new home!

The family had acquired Dolly as a three-year-old from the local Humane Society, where she’d wound up after being injured in a car accident – in fact, one of her hind limbs was so badly broken that the shelter vets amputated it. The family didn’t tell us Dolly was three-legged—they’d never known her any other way and simply didn’t think about it, which really is a true testament to how well Dolly does without one of her limbs! Our intake evaluator got quite a surprise, though.

This pretty, plump, and nimble girl is doing great in foster care:

“She just seemed to walk into the house and become a member of the family. She’s such a calm, loving presence and has blended so well with my Rosie and Bella, my two Cavalier Spaniels! She minds her manners beautifully (never getting on furniture, no accidents, no counter surfing, no digging outside, no rough play with the small dogs). Several times since she came to stay with me I have left her along with Rosie and Bella alone loose in the house for several hours. When I return, nothing is out of place. Dolly loves her walks!  She waits patiently by the door until it is her time, but she sure gets excited when she sees her leash.”

Unfortunately, lovely Dolly tested positive for heartworms, so she’ll need to be extra-calm for a while as she completes the treatment. Let us know if you are the family who is ready to take her in right now and see her through!
