As the shelter opened its doors one Tuesday morning, young Ronnie suddenly appeared, strolling down the street right out front—no collar, no tags, no owner in hot pursuit. Had he been dumped there, or had the clever dog made it to the right place, at the right time, all on his own? Nobody knows… and when the next Tuesday rolled around with nobody making a claim to the friendly youngster, he was cleared for adoption. The shelter asked if GRR might be interested. “Sure, but please send a photo first,” we e-mailed back. No problem. The picture popped through five minutes later, and: Omigosh! We found ourselves staring at a blond canine Adonis. Yipes! Time to dispatch our man on the spot pronto!

With volunteer Bob already motoring off to the rescue, the foster home hunt
began. Didn’t take long for an experienced foster Mom and Dad with a soft spot
for the wild young boys to say “yes,” but: “Just to let you know, we’re going to
call him ‘Da Doo Ron Ron,’ after the old Beach Boys song.”
Well, that seems entirely appropriate! As in:
Saw his pic on Tuesday and our hearts stood still
Da doo Ron Ron, da doo Ron Ron!
“Better nab him quickly or somebody else will!”
Da doo Ron Ron, da doo Ron Ron!
But – we know the drill:
Call the shelter: “HOLD HIM!”
…and then drive him home!
Da doo Ron Ron, da doo Ron Ron!
As the teenage dream settles into foster care, we have a few observations to
share. First of all, Ronnie seems to like the crate just fine. He gets on well
with other dogs, but he tends to try to be the boss – a behavior that we are
sure will soften as his hormone levels drop post-neuter. He is very
affectionate; in fact, he’ll even get a running start and leap up on people to
deliver a hug and a kiss! He would
knock an older person or a child over with ease.
Time and training will help.

Ron Ron LOVES to be in the house. And once he learns his house manners, he’ll be
a great family member. Good looks, sweet personality, plenty of pep – you can’t
beat that! Soon some lucky family will be singing:
Met him at his foster home, he looked so fine—
Da doo Ron Ron, da doo Ron Ron!
Tomorrow afternoon I’m gonna make him mine—
My dreamboat Golden: da do Ron Ron!
