Note from Tabby’s foster mom: Here are some pics of Tabby. Her forever home is meeting her this weekend but I am sure she would still like to be on the website!
We wish we had a “tactile-interactive” feature on our site, because EVERYONE says that Tabby has the softest fur of any Golden they’ve ever met! She came to GRR when her family realized that they couldn’t give her the hours and attention a young Golden needs. She was spending too much time in the backyard, and got so wound up when anyone came out to see her that she knocked them flat! It was time to find her a home with the time for training and play to channel all that puppy energy.
In just over a week in foster care, Tabby has made great strides! Of course, she’s still bouncy and silly and inclined to jump, but she’s getting MUCH better. She plays pretty physically with other dogs, but plays well – all in good fun. Leash walking is progressing, too: “She pulls some, but she pulled a LOT a week ago. Walks pretty well with a slip lead placed high. Learning to heel.”
Tabby will chew on magazines if they’re left out, and her foster mom has seen her taste-testing the edge of the coffee table, “so I wouldn't leave anything out, but she hasn't damaged shoes or furniture or anything of that sort. She loves her toys!” She wiggles around during grooming but does well
For a mostly-outdoor dog, Tabby seems to be housetrained already (wow) and sleeps right through the night. And after all that time spent living outdoors, she now LOVES to be inside and, if left in the backyard for even a bit, will pop up in every window and door asking to come back in. She started out quite frightened of household noises; dishwasher, vac cleaner, coffee grinder were all new and scary. But that’s getting better fast, too.
Tabby is a beautiful, healthy, HIGH-ENERGY dog. She needs a home with lots of exercise/attention/training that can keep strong rules in place. Small children might not be a good idea, as she can be jumpy and run into people and would probably knock down smaller kids. But she LOVES people and when she does get tired & lie down, it is usually on your feet. She will follow you everywhere in the house and is a velcro Golden. She would love another dog to play with but I think as long as the family was home most of the day and she got good exercise she would be fine either way.
