Update 7/21/12:

“After church today, a fellow parishioner came up to me and told me she had her son’s dog that she needed to re-home. She can send photos electronically. Once she does, I’ll meet the dog and get the stack of vet records.  The dog is a 2.5 y/o female/spayed and UTD on all shots, good with other dogs and kids. Son has moved to PA due to a job change and couldn’t take the dogs. Just a warning that we may see a dog surface in Killeen very soon!”

Sure enough, Lyla Marie soon joined the queue of Goldens waiting for a place in GRR. We’re always thrilled to get in dogs with a known history, and Lyla’s file contained just the kind of history we love to see: regular heartworm preventive, regular vet visits. Great with other dogs (lived with a Lab, a Jack Russell, a pit bull, a dachshund), AND with cats, AND with kids.  A  solid personality, a clean bill of health (aside from some fleabite dermatitis), and movie-star looks, too—who could ask for more? The caramel-blonde charmer arrived in her foster home on Friday the Thirteenth. (So much for unlucky numbers!) 

Lyla’s foster family is very likely to be her permanent one, too, and she’s doing great! Respects the 17-year-old feline Boss of the House, gets on beautifully with a senior dachshund-mix buddy, doesn’t tear up anything when home alone, does fine on leash after some initial pulling, jumps around but settles quickly, especially for such a youngster. And if she’s pretty now, just wait until she’s had a few months of high-quality food and a few more shampoos. She’ll be the belle of the neighborhood!
