Ginger

Ginger, age 4

AVAILABLE

Ready to add a little spice to your life?

We can help – and our suggestion will bring you not only spice, but sugar and everything nice, too! It’s Ginger, a lovely 4-year-old Golden with honey-blonde fur, brown eyes, and lots of love to lavish on that special family.

Ginger was born in Mexico, then moved to Texas as a pup to train as a military dog. Unfortunately for her career as GI Golden, she didn’t complete the training (“she wouldn’t carry a metal pipe in her mouth!” her former owner explained), but that’s OK – she moved on to spend several years as a well-loved house dog. Unfortunately, a death in the family meant that Ginger wasn’t getting the time her owner wanted her to have. “She is SO friendly and loving. She’ll sit still for attention for ages! She deserves someone who has lots of time to spend  with her and wants a little  companion to keep them company all day long.”

When our volunteer went out to meet her, she was smitten! “Anyone will be very lucky to adopt Ginger.  Had quite the argument with myself as I was doing the intake eval (‘take her home now,’ ‘no 4 dogs is your limit,’ ‘but she's awesome,’ ‘she's perfect but 4 IS your limit!’).  Ginger is not at my house this morning so, obviously, my logical self beat down my emotional self.”

Ginger just moved into her foster home, where she’s calm, trustworthy, and has proved herself great around cats and other dogs—though this girl is definitely people-focused. Wherever you are is where she wants to be.

Needless to say, Ginger is housebroken. She likes being brushed and knows to wait to have muddy paws wiped before coming into the house in damp weather. She’s re-learning her leash-walking skills—and regular exercise is a must, because she’s a plump girl (her only health issue) and needs to shed around 20 pounds. She’s pretty now, but what a beauty she will be when she slims down!

Ginger will flourish with owners who enjoy having a furry friend by their side, and who will be sure to keep up with her exercise and a healthy diet. Plenty of walking will be fun for everyone: it will give you a chance to show off your wonderful Golden, and it will give Ginger a chance to meet lots of new admirers (her favorite thing).

Ginger is an absolute joy and we know there’s a family waiting for just this girl.
