Mr Bojangles (already known as “Bo-dacious” by his foster
family) is happily matched up, but since every GRR dog deserves a place in the
spotlight, here’s his story:
He may be a bit plump right now, but Mr Bojangles is always ready to trip the
light fantastic – in body AND soul. In fact, he’s clearly a dancer through and
through… why, just look at all the
pirouetting he’s had to do in the past few years alone!
Mr Bojangles comes to GRR from a wonderful owner who herself rescued him when
the friendly canine showed up in
her front yard one day—and made up his mind to stay there. Before then, she’d
seen the social fellow out and about, and had just assumed he belonged to the
new neighbors across the street… but once Mr B (showing his intelligence and
good judgment) decided he’d had it with wandering and was going to stick with
her, she found out the neighbors had no idea who he was. A quick trip to the vet
revealed that Mr B was chipped, and the chip led to a confusing tale involving
an out-of-town shelter (where the chip was implanted), an owner who claimed to
have given the dog away to someone else but would not say who, and a name which
Mr B had clearly either (a) never heard before; or (b) was simply ignoring,
since he had no interest in returning to his former life. The end result was
that he got a new name AND a new home (on a big property with eight other dog
pals), and everyone was happy! Oh, and along the way, Mr B’s new owner treated
him for heartworms (we are delighted to say he is now heartworm-free!).
A few years down the road, however, a move to a different community & a smaller
home meant that Mr B’s loving owner had to decrease the number of dogs in her
family. “It is so hard to give him up, but I know he will be easy to place in a
new home, and others of my dogs are more difficult and need to stay with me,”
she explained.
In foster care, “Mr. Bojangles is doing great.
We can tell he is used to lots of activity and has had a lot of
interaction with people and other dogs, too. He is attached to my leg wherever I
move, likes to ride in the car, and enjoys everyone (including my son's Golden,
Duke) when we have company. He is
well behaved, has had no accidents, and is adjusting to our cat, Missy.
He has had one shower; he settled in
nicely under the stream of water, although he was a little frightened at first.
“He goes for daily walks and his appetite is improving. We include green beans
in his diet of Kirkland's Signature for weight control, since he needs to trim
down by 15 pounds or more. He
sleeps through the night in our bedroom.
He is very sweet and is wanting to please.
Everyone who has met Mr. Bojangles thinks he is such a well-behaved,
nice dog. We think he is
very good looking, too, and we call him Bo-dacious at times!”
