Miley
Miley, age 2 1/2
MATCHED
Sweet Miley is already matched, but we know
everyone likes to read about our rescue girls and guys, so here’s her story:
Petite and
dainty, little Miley came to GRR from a family who realized they didn’t have
time for her. They’d acquired her 9 months ago from someone who had a dog to
give away: it was one of those cases of “Please can you help me find a home for
my cute dog?” “Sure!” and then… “Uh oh, maybe we aren’t the best place for this
dog after all.” Enter GRR and a quick transfer into foster care.
Miley’s foster
mom says:
Miley is proof
that the best gifts come in small packages! She is truly a “pocket Golden,”
tiny compared to the rest of the crew in our house. What she lacks in size, she
more than makes up for in personality. She is sweet with a capital S. Her
beautiful golden eyes look deep into your soul and beg for love. She loves to
be as close to us as possible, just asking for that reaffirmation that we love
her. She does have a tendency to jump up and put her paws on your stomach (she
can't quite reach our chest level), just wanting to make sure she has your
undivided attention. She is so small and jumps so lightly that you barely feel
her feet on you, but nonetheless, we are working to correct this habit.
In the house she
is calm and sweet. She likes to be near, but doesn't beg for constant attention
as long as she can lie close to where I am working.
At night she settles right in and we don't hear a peep from her until
morning—and then… As a Japanese poet once wrote, “To wake alive in this
world—what happiness.” That’s Miley! She wakes up in the best mood! We should
all have her attitude. The minute she opens her eyes she’s smiling, anticipating
breakfast, the morning walk, and all the interesting things the day might bring.
On the
subject of leash walking, the first few days were a bit challenging. It
doesn't look like she had any leash experience at all; it was like walking a
zig-zag sewing machine! Over the past week she has improved immensely. She loves
everyone we run into, and does well with other dogs. She does get frightened
easily by strange noises like trash trucks, lawn mowers, etc, but is also
improving in that area.
In the backyard
she is a wild and crazy pup. She loves to romp with the big guys, and can go
from 0 to 60 in two seconds flat. She flashes right past everyone else, leaving
them wondering where she went. If they start to catch up to her, she does the
famous shoulder roll and changes direction in the blink of an eye, while the
others are still trying to put on the brakes. She will tussle with the biggest
dogs here, meaning going up against dogs who are 75 pounds, and she really holds
her own. She is fast and smart, and not intimidated in the least.
She likes to
carry tennis balls around, and likes to play catch. She isn't terribly good at
it, and will only play for one or two throws, and then she's off to something
else. She shares her toys without any issues, and is usually more interested in
playing with the other dogs than with toys in general. She is wonderful with
her food, no protectiveness at all, and no attempt to go after anyone else's
food.
The first night
here, she snuggled up on the bed with my husband, and when I came to bed a while
later, she looked up at me as if to say, "Aren't I just so cute? I don't really
need to get off the bed, do I?" Since then, she's slept on the floor next to
the bed, but likes to jump up around 5:00 to say good morning when she hears us
starting to stir.
Miley is
wonderful with cats, of whom there are five in the house. She completely
ignores them. I'm sure she would love to play with them also, but they just
aren't interested. She is such a gentle, loving girl, beautiful inside and out.
