Erin

Update 07/10

MATCHED

The results are IN! We’ve all been so curious.

We DNA-tested two very different-looking pups: Vivian, a tricolor brown-black-gold/cream fluffball (she looks like her brother Eddie); and Tess, a solid blonde pup with short fur (Erin looks a lot like her, but with a longer coat).

The lab reports that Viv is 1/2 German Shepherd, 1/4 Golden Retriever, and 1/4 Great Pyrenees (yes, this does point toward momma Julia being only half Golden, but you sure could have fooled us—and did! She looks like a purebred Golden for sure).

Tess’s results are quite different, and this suggests that the litter had at least a couple of different fathers. Tess is 1/4 Golden, 1/4 German Shepherd, 1/4 “mixed breed,”  1/8 Alaskan Malamute, and 1/8 beagle. Goodness! Sure will be interesting to see how big she gets and what she looks like as a grown-up.

Meanwhile, oblivious to all the fascination surrounding their heritage, the puppies are living the typical puppy life, namely rumbling with each other, making puddles, getting stuck under furniture and beneath bushes in the yard & requiring rescue (and sticky-bur combouts), eating like tiny pigs, and growing like weeds.

ERIN

Erin now weighs in at a plump ten pounds. She’s a typical happy, silly puppy: bouncy, bite-y, climb-y, wiggly, playful (and that includes trying to steal and attack the hairbrush!). She LOVES to play in the water bowl and snap at the stream of water coming from the hose. She’s sleeping well at night for a full eight hours – wow! Better whisk her out as soon as she wakes up, though, because of course she is not quite housebroken yet.

Sweet & Frisky Erin is already matched to her forever family! They’ll be meeting her very soon.

“Nursing mom w/ Pups - Golden enough for GRR? Came in stray yesterday with six kiddos. She’s only about two. Can you take?”

Wow, Mom looks like a Golden movie star—so our response was “You bet! Come on down!” Followed by: “Yikes!! Where are we going to find a foster home for seven dogs at one blow??” Our chief  foster coordinator got on the line and went down the list, and hooray! One of our long-time foster moms stepped up to help out.

And now … We’re delighted to introduce GRR’s latest group of celebrities (we understand they already have quite the Facebook following). Mama is so glamorous that her foster mom picked a superstar name for her – and the pups were all named for characters in movies featuring Julia (you know the one we mean!).

While mom is a Golden through and through, her adorable kids—now about six weeks old—are quite the “variety pack.” We’re DNA testing them and should have the results in around three weeks; we’re all very curious to know just what went into the making of these darling fluffballs. And we’re thrilled to have a litter of Golden mix pups who all look so different – as you may recall, our last two batches of mixed pups have been almost all solid black!

Here are the pups’ first press releases… and we’ll have more news as they grow & change day by day.

At just over five pounds,  tricolored Eddie (black, brown, gold) is the sole boy in the family. “He’s the group’s Prince Charming.  He has a bold personality, which he will need as the only male in a house full of girls. He’s the tall (largest, at a little over 5 pounds), dark (tricolored) and handsome one of the bunch and for the most part is pretty laidback.. though if someone is ‘talking,’ it is usually Eddie.”

Little Viv—a tricolor, like brother Eddie—weighs in at just a shade over 4 pounds. She is the quietest of the puppies and just likes to get close and cuddle.

Four-pound Tess is another blonde bombshell in the making!  She is both sweet and feisty.  One minute she is loving on you; the next, she is trying to drum up some trouble.

At only 3 1/2 pounds, independent Anna doesn’t mind heading off from the pack.  She’s an all-black, curious puppy who can cover some ground!  She is a bit more reserved than the others and doesn’t get into the “sibling rivalry” quite as often.

Like her namesake Erin Brockovich, Erin has some big blonde hair… I mean, fur… and an even bigger personality. And she’s big size-wise, too, almost as hefty as Eddie!  She loves to lie on her back and try to paw you.  If you feel a nibble on your toes, most often it’s Erin trying to stir up some trouble!

Darby is the most petite pup of the group.  But what this black-and-white cutie lacks in size (she’s barely over 3 pounds) she makes up for in spunk!  She is one of the more vocal puppies and tends to be the instigator when they get into a puppy rumble. She often needs rescuing from being squashed from one of her larger siblings.
