MARILYNNE 2013
Well,
where has the time gone. one year has already gone by, one year since Marilynne
came into our lives on April 6th, 2012.
This date is bittersweet, as you remember, on this date we got Marilynne
and on the same day our Grandson, Blake, was killed in a car wreck.
There
is no doubt why God sent Marilynne to us on this date, she has been such a joy
in our lives. She has brought us
such comfort and so much love at a time we needed it the most.
Marilynne is not only loving, she is so funny, such a clown, always makes
us laugh.
Bob
had surgery in August and has been out of work since then so she has been
thrilled because she has had her dad home everyday, she hates being alone.
Her favorite thing is going with dad to the river and also she is a great
swimmer. Her other favorite thing is sleeping in bed with mom and dad.
She is so full of energy, she acts like she is 2 years old instead of 8
years old, she is always carrying something in her mouth, socks are her favorite
and all of her toys.
She
still gets real excited and feisty with other dogs when
on a
leash, but we are working on this, we have been working with a trainer to help
her with this problem.
Our
days are always full of happiness and joy and lots of love from our beautiful
Marilynne.
Thank
you GRR for all of your love and support.
Love,
Marion
& Bob Arnold

Marilynne, age 8
AVAILA
Petite and pretty,
8-year-old Marilynne first came to GRR way back in 2006, when her then-owners
surrendered her to the shelter. She was soon adopted and, a few years later,
moved out to Southern California, where she enjoyed keeping Dad company in the
car in all his drives about town. However, Marilynne doesn’t like tiny kids—not
that she’s aggressive, but the high-pitched voices and sudden movements make her
stressed and anxious. When her family realized that their first baby was on the
way, they made the difficult decision to return Marilynne to GRR.
Though she’s
sporting a summer cut now, we promise you that her fur will grow out! One thing
that won’t change, though, is her charming smile, her affection for grown-up
people, her adoration of car rides—and her love of luxury. A family who doesn’t
mind dogs on the furniture or up on the bed will be a plus for Marilynne! (Her
penchant for nabbing stray socks and toting them around probably won’t change,
either, so be warned.) Of course she is totally housetrained & trustworthy.
On walks, she can get snarky if another dog is approaching head on. She’s not the first Golden to act this way on lead, and with time, practice, and a few techniques (ask us about the booklet Feisty Fido!) she’ll get better. In the home, though, Marilynne is fine with other dogs and even offers to play, though if her partner gets too rough she will let him know to dial it back a bit! A relaxed second dog or no other dogs in her adoptive home would be fine.
Marilynne has gone
through quite an upheaval lately, and her new family will need to understand
that she must have time to adjust and take things at her own pace. Her first few
days in her foster home—and in her respite-care home, when her foster family
went out of town—she was very protective of her bed and toys, and would grumble
when another dog (or sometimes, even another person) came near. After a very
short time, that attitude vanished. This little dog just needs time to acclimate
herself.
A senior with plenty
of get up and go, Marilynne would be thrilled with a no-kids or older-kids-only
family where she could have lots of attention, lots of car rides, and a
designated “dog sofa” and cuddle time on the bed. (Note: she does want to jump
in the bed with you when there’s a T-storm.) She was used to being “Dad’s little
helper” and we’d love for her to have that again!
