Cari

Age 4 1/2
MATCHED

Cari is matched to her forever home, but every GRR dog deserves her place on the website!

Beautiful  platinum-blonde Cari came to GRR when her family had to move out of town due to a job transfer—and unfortunately, the temporary housing where they’d be staying didn’t allow for big dogs. Her owners had set up a new home for her with a friend,  but when a vet visit turned up mild-to-moderate hip dysplasia, everything fell through at the last minute.

“Please let me know if your rescue can take Cari. I just want to be assured she will be placed in a good home. We are moving next week so I need to do this ASAP.”

Finding that good home was no problem, because Cari is a dream dog. Gorgeous, friendly, wonderful with children, social with other dogs. She moved right in with a family who have little girls to play with. And after settling in for a bit, she took another trip to the vet, so we could get more details on those hips. X-rays showed that her hips ARE abnormal—but since she’s not really symptomatic, there’s no need for surgical evaluation or even pain meds. “Taking glucosamine and fish oil will help her joints,” said the vet, “and she definitely needs to drop some weight.” In fact, by the time she had her vet visit, her new family’s program of nice long walks and smaller meals had already trimmed her from 92 to 88 pounds. Wow! She’ll hit her goal weight of 75 in no time—we can hardly wait to see her in a few months. She’ll be even more glamorous than ever.

“Cari is a treasure,” said our transport volunteer – and her new family agrees:

Cari is a dream dog.  She is the sweetest, most precious dog ever.  She quickly got the nickname “CareBear” because she is just so awesome.  I don't know how much more weight she has lost since we weighed her at the vet but I can tell  she is slimmer.  It is amazing how much more energy she has since she first got here!  I went on a walk/run with her this morning and she wanted to run almost the whole time.  Every day it seems her energy levels gets higher.

She has never had once had an accident.  She slid right in and got along fine with our other dog.  She is quite the people dog!  She has warmed the hearts of so many other family members that the are wanting a golden now too.

Even her hair color fits right in with the family.  I am blond and so are my two girls.  :)

The whole family is in love with her and I think she loves us just as much.  She is a very special girl.
