Ollie
Ollie, age 4
AVAILA
A few weeks ago, a friendly Golden fella was found
strolling the streets of San Antonio. The finder had him scanned for a
microchip—and imagine everyone’s surprise when (a) the scanner actually picked
something up; and (b) the chip led back to an Arizona rescue organization! When
we contacted that group, we learned that Ollie had been found as a youngster in
Tucson in 2009. He was chipped and vetted, but before he actually became an
official rescue dog, his owners appeared to claim him. Somehow, between then and
now, he travelled nearly 900 miles—only to get lost again. This time, nobody
came looking, and now Ollie is a GRR Golden!
He may be officially approaching middle age, but this big,
high-energy guy still has a lot of the rowdy, mouthy puppy in him. He pulls at
his leash (but is learning to walk more nicely with a harness on). When groomed,
he wiggles, grabs at the brush, and falls all over the place. (: He takes things
from the counter if not watched, gets in the trash if given the chance, drinks
from the toilet if given access, and bounds up onto the furniture (not permitted
in our home, and he DOES get down when you tell him to!). He plays well (if
rambunctiously!) with other dogs & has to be reminded not to poke his nose into
their food dishes when they’re eating. However, it’s all done in a spirit of
pure goodwill!
One thing Ollie most definitely does not care for is cats—he’ll go
after them with great dedication—so a no-cat home is a must for him. And one
thing he loves is swimming! He went to the lake this past weekend and dove right
in.
Ollie is a fast learner. He’s already learned that he must SIT
before being fed or given a treat.
He also knows that toys are not allowed to go outside, so drops them at the
door. And he’s making progress toward understanding his size, so he doesn’t just
mow down any smaller person or thing in his path!
With lots of attention and exercise, Ollie is going to make a great
(and very entertaining) family member.
