Good news! Valerie’s kennel cough is all cleared up & she will have
her spay surgery on February 21. She’s spent the last week getting settled into
her foster home, where things are going just fine. Her first Foster Report Card
shows a 3.5 GPA (that’s Golden Point Average) – her only “B” grades are in leash
walking (pulls like a runaway train) and treat etiquette (tries to horn in and
grab the other dogs’ treats). As far as commands go, she really only knows SIT
so far, but she gets an “A” for being willing to learn much more!
Too bad the report card doesn’t have a category for
Driver’s Ed, because that’s a course Valerie REALLY wants to take. She wants to
be right next to you learning how to operate the gearshift, turn on the
headlights, and twirl that steering wheel. Until such time as it’s legal (and
non-hazardous!) for a Golden to drive, she’ll need to be harnessed in the back
seat.
Valerie plays well with other dogs, but as far as toys
go – pfft! Who cares? If you’re home, she’d rather be sitting close to you and
soaking up the affection. She’s housebroken and reliable home alone for up to 8
hours at a stretch… but she is a peppy, high-energy dog, so it would be great if
she had folks at home to get her out and about for nice long walks.
Val would be great for a family who wants a beautiful
blondie (she also gets an A+ in “Looking Gorgeous Even Without Makeup or Soft
Focus Photography”) to take out and about, and to exercise and train. Her foster
mom says, “Valerie will excel once she learns more manners and basic commands!”
#13-019 Valerie, Update 2/10/13
“SOS! We’re overflowing. Got dogs coming in and no place to put them. Can you
come and get this one immediately? We don’t even have a kennel for her.” The
attached photo showed a lovely 5-year-old purebred Golden with light blonde
locks.
GRR made it out pronto and loaded up Miss Valerie, so named because
it IS close to Valentine’s Day, and she’ll make someone quite the Valentine!
“Very pretty, very sweet—but insecure for now, determined to get
into the front seat of the car! Clearly very, very happy to be out of the
shelter and on her way. She’s been on the road for a while, I think… her
pantaloons and tail were just loaded with sticker burs. One interesting thing,
she was totally non-reactive to all the cats when I led her through the
shelter’s cat room. Maybe lived with kitties before?”
Valerie has a case of kennel cough, so her spay surgery is on hold
until she’s over that and feeling better. We’ll soon know more about her, as she
settles into foster care.
