Once Gold Ribbon Rescue saw beautiful Ms. Sally, of
course they sprung into action. As
the golden girl hopped out into plain view, it was as if the heavens opened up
with Wilson Picket himself belting out the old familiar tune: “Mustang Sally, now baby/Oh Lord!/Guess you better slow that Mustang
down/Oh Lord!/ Listen, you been runnin’ all over town/I have to put your flat
feet on the ground.”
Perhaps the heavens didn’t really open up.
And maybe the handsome soul singer didn’t croon. But one thing’s for
sure: the lyrics to “Mustang Sally” may be the perfect soundtrack for this
golden girl, and GRR is committed to finding Ms. Sally her forever
home—somewhere she can “put her flat feet [or paws] on the ground.”
And boy was this golden used to runnin’ all over town.
From the very beginning, Ms. Sally made it perfectly clear she has never
been an indoor girl. So her foster
mom is working with her on the basics: potty training, walking on the leash,
sharing toys with other pups, taking treats gently, chewing on appropriate toys.
All of these behaviors are to be expected.
And you’d think that with all her wanderin’ around braving the Texas heat
wave, Ms. Sally would just want to take it easy for a while.
Maybe she’d lounge around in the A/C, watch a little
Animal Planet in between naps.
But not this girl.
At 6 years old, Sally seems to have loads of energy to burn as if she’d
never been played with a day in her life. So her forever family has to
understand that Ms. Sally deserves a home willing to make up for all the head
pats, belly rubs, and long walks she missed out on for so many years. They’ve
got to make up for lost time.
Ms. Sally loves tennis balls.
She will fetch them forever, so potential adopters: plop two, three, or
four of those bright green balls, and she will never let you out of her sight.
Her foster mom says, “Sally is obsessed with tennis balls and hiding them under
the furniture. She tries to get them
out, but her legs are not long enough.
I end up fishing them out from under the couch, shelves, hutch, and
entertainment center.”
This golden girl would be an amazing companion for an
active family committed to outdoor living.
After an arduous hike or a peaceful swim, can’t you just see this pup
with her tongue lolling to the side, exuding that perpetual golden joy?
After only being in foster care for three weeks, Sally is
making improvements as an indoor dog.
After living with no rules her whole life, she’s learning how to adapt to
healthy boundaries. With a little
bit more time and attention to Sally’s training, this once wild mustang won’t be
wild any longer.
