Simpson
Simpson, age 8
Simpson is in the movies too!

Senior he may be, but Simpson still loves his walks—and he has more
than enough energy to ask for attention, too! This nice fellow came to GRR from
a loving owner whose health issues prevented her from giving her big Golden the
attention she knew he needed.
In his foster home, he’s getting along great with two girl Golden
foster sisters and three human siblings (ages 7, 11, and 15)—and all is
harmonious. He smiles and wags his tail to show his appreciation for pets and
loving. One thing that does NOT win a vote of approval from him, however, is the
crate! Foster mom reports, “Tried to ask him to go in the crate the first day he
got here as I had to pick the kiddos up from school and he'd only been here for
about 45 minutes. He made it very
clear, albeit politely, so that he was NOT going in that crate.
And, at his size, I wasn't going to be able to force him!
He hung out in the laundry room with Sadie & Belle and was just fine.”
Car rides are another thing he isn’t quite sure about, but he
should soon figure out that getting in the car leads to something fun.
Simpson pulls a bit on lead, but for a dog of his size, he’s not
bad. “We’re practicing, but until the weather cools off, we won’t go far.
It's hot out and this big guy doesn't like the heat.”
Inside the house, Simpson is Mr Mellow (he sleeps like a rock at
night), though as the days go by he’s exploring the house more freely and with
less trepidation.
“So far he will not go upstairs.
We've tried enticing him with treats but to no avail.” At first he didn’t
quite know what do with toys or bones, but now he’s begun picking up bones and
chewing on them, and he even picked up a plushie and started toting it around.
Simpson’s hips “look fantastic on X-ray!” says the vet. “He weighs
92 pounds & should weigh 75. Once he loses the excess 17 pounds, Simpson will
move much more easily." But foster mom says he moves pretty easily already!
“Comments were made about Simpson's arthritis but I gotta tell ya, I'm not
seeing it. He gets up and down very
easily and readily. He doesn't act
like it hurts him or that it's a chore to do so.
He IS a big, big boy and I do agree that he'll feel more like moving—and
for longer periods of time—once he loses some weight.”
Simpson is a sweet, sweet guy who could go almost anywhere.
“He just wants to be near the peeps.”
He's not really playful, but for sure he’d like daily walks during the
cooler times of day (and they'd have to be pretty short to start out).
He'd make a great companion for anyone who appreciates a big calm Golden
with a sweet, laidback personality.
