Lauren, age 1 1/2
AVAILABLE
WEIGHT: 85 pounds
Update 10/22/12:
Early one October
morning, a young lady was preparing to leave for her job at a vet clinic – but
first, she headed out to the big field near her home where she leaves food for a
colony of feral cats. And… what’s this? Bounding through the grass was a big,
beautiful blonde Golden, wearing a tattered collar without tags. The field backs
up to several subdivisions, so “surely someone is looking for her, but I can’t
just leave her running around loose,” the lady decided. “Lauren” ran right up to
her new friend, but getting her into the car (so as to keep her safe at the
clinic) was another matter! Still, with gentle persuasion and encouragement, the
young blondie was eventually settled into the backseat for the ride to her
“motel room.”
Once
Lauren was safely stowed at the clinic (where she proceeded to charm the
entire staff in short order), her rescuer set about tracking down an owner.
First she plastered the surrounding neighborhoods with signs; then she posted on
Craigslist; then she left messages with local shelters and vets. And of course,
she scanned Lauren for a chip (none found). A whole week went by… and no
response. So: “I found a dog last week, about a one-year- old female Golden
Retriever. She is such a wonderful dog. I have not been able to find a home for
her nor been able to find her original owners so now I am looking for placement
with a rescue organization that might find her a home. I would be glad to
provide you any information that you might need.”
And more than
that, she provided all of Lauren’s intake vetting. What a lucky girl, to have
such a great friend looking out for her! (And in fact, Lauren the Golden is
named after Lauren the Person, the wonderful young lady who rescued her.) The
vets discovered that the young dog is already spayed, heartworm negative, and
healthy. It does seem like she hadn’t spent much time outside a backyard,
though: “At the clinic, it seems like everything is new to her—slippery floors,
noises, etc.—and she gets startled, but then she gets her bearings fast. Very
smart and attentive, quick learner.
What a doll! Sweet, affectionate, well behaved; doesn't even tear up things in
her crate. Gets along well with
other dogs, too.”
Now Lauren is in
her foster home and having lots of fun. “She still is nervous about getting in a
car or going upstairs, but she was on our couch in less than 30 minutes,” says
foster mom. “I will keep everyone posted on her progress.”
