2012, June 2012… Jackster’s owner had called our Hotline three times before,
intent on surrendering his dog. He knew that he really couldn’t give Jack the
grooming, exercise and indoor care a Golden needs—but each time, at the last
minute, he changed his mind. And truly, Jack is SUCH a great dog that we
wouldn’t expect it to be anything less than a really tough decision to give him
up! But finally, on July 11, a fourth SOS came in: “This time it’s really time.”
A bored Jack had begun digging in the yard and covering himself with mud from
stem to stern.
Volunteer Kathy—who had
already met Jack the month before (“He’s a wonderful dog. Needs a really good
brushing but he’s a social, nice Golden. Someone is going to be really happy
with this boy!”)—headed off almost at once to collect him. “Initial impressions:
rides in the car extremely well; since he has not been exposed to much outside
his backyard, was pretty anxious but has settled in fast in my home after a
half-mile walk. Met two cats, several dogs,
and kids on skateboards and responded to all with friendly curiosity.”
After a day of R &
R, it was off to the vet, where Jack won yet more fans: nobody could stop
talking about what he sweetie he is! He tolerated all the poking and prodding
with extreme good nature. What a good, solid dog! He’s already found a home with
a gentleman who’s been waiting for a best buddy just like Jack.
Watch this space for Jackster's story as we get to know him better!
