“This poor boy is older and faded in color.
His ears are dirty and goopy looking. And he’s covered in fleas and
ticks. He’s not the best looking
specimen, but he was probably a good looking boy in his younger days.
In fact, I think I even see that ‘golden’ sparkle in his eye and a spring
in his step!”
Found in an after-hour’s cage at the local animal shelter, a note tagged to him
said he was good with kids. The
then-depressed Roscoe never knew that in a matter of hours, GRR would change his
life forever.

After a few weeks in foster care, Roscoe has settled in quite nicely living the
life of a blessed Gold Ribbon Rescue dog.
As time passes, his foster family discovers more and more of Roscoe’s
many hidden talents. For instance, Roscoe just might ask for a tryout with the
Astros—perhaps they’re looking for a new left fielder?
In the backyard, Roscoe loves chasing the tennis ball and will see-saw
back and forth, back and forth when his foster dad plays catch with his son. His
foster dad says, “It’s pretty funny to watch him just follow any ball being
thrown in the yard.”
And on to Roscoe’s next talent—the first ever golden retriever escape artist!
A little over a week ago, a hotline volunteer received a phone call from
a woman stating she found a wet and muddy GRR dog plopped right in her backyard!
Apparently Roscoe and his little buddy had been let out to potty early
that morning, and just a short time later, Roscoe had bolted from the yard
travelling only a few doors down!
But even though Roscoe clearly loves the outdoors, he never quite knew that
indoor living had such perks. With
an endless supply of balls, bones, sticks, and stuffed animals, what more could
he ask for? His foster dad says, “He
loves to parade around with his toys” showing them off for all to see.
And he’s discovered how to turn the “vet recommended” two meals a day
into an “all-you-can-eat” buffet! Upon
his arrival, Roscoe snuck in the laundry room (where the dog food is kept),
broke open the snack containers, and chomped away on any morsel he could inhale
before dad noticed!

Though Roscoe seems like a handful, don’t be mistaken—his foster dad can’t brag
on him enough.
Roscoe “is just a fantastic animal—very beautiful with a wonderful, happy, and
calm demeanor.” He would make a
great companion or a family dog as he “does not get aggressive or snap at the
kids”—even when the ball is in his area.
“He’s pretty good about sleeping at night as he does not jump on the bed”
and is content with sprawling out on the bedroom floor. “He minds well,” but his
previous owner was obviously rough on him as he’s timid around doors.
It’s as if he’s had plenty of doors shut in his face or he’s been
physically shoved out.
But despite all his history, Roscoe’s playful and loving golden personality wins
out. This sweetheart deserves a
loving family—young or old.
Over the next few months, Roscoe will need to go through heartworm treatment,
but don’t let this deter you from inquiring more about him. You may find Roscoe
is the missing link to your home.
