Dustin

It was a classic case of mistaken identity! On February 29, we got an e-mail from Irish Setter rescue: “Take a look at this guy. Shelter contacted us about an Irish Setter stray, but we think he’s probably a red Golden, not an Irish.” They were right – despite the long ears, gangly frame, and distinctive bump on the top of his noggin, this skinny fella is all Golden.
As is usually the case with our shelter rescues, his
story begins in the middle -- when a
friendly passerby scooped him up as he was walking down a country road, with no
collar, no tags, and no microchip. And no name, either. Our early e-mails refer
to him simply as “Leap Dog” – after all, he came on the radar on Leap Day – but
he needed a REAL name! And what better choice than “Dustin,” after the shelter
director who tracked down a rescue group to help the handsome foundling?
Doggie Dustin has a beautiful red coat, and when he puts
on the 15 pounds he needs, he’ll be a stunner. He is TALL, too! When our intake
volunteer arrived to pick him up, she commented that “he does jump up when he
meets you, and he’s so tall that he’s looking right in your face.”
Dustin is just a happy guy, a “leaner” who loves
attention & is perfectly comfy with all kinds of handling. He’s a good car rider
and even seems to know “sit” already.
After a stop at the vet’s for desperately needed bath and
neuter surgery, Dustin moved into his foster home. More news as we get to know
him better!
