Luke
Luke, age 2
This pretty boy was
found all alone in a nice lady’s front yard just a week or so ago. She promptly
took the young stray in for safekeeping. He stayed with her for a few days—long
enough for her to comment, “Luke will end up being a wonderful dog for someone
who has the time to nurture him and let him to grow as a Golden.
He needs a patient family who will earn his trust. He’s timid but so
willing to be your friend!”
Luke’s foster mom
concurs:
Luke is a handsome blond
with beautiful brown eyes. He came
to my home a frightened boy who has likely seen a lot in his short two years—and
not all of it good. He is extremely
shy and fearful of humans; when we met at the vet’s office, he trembled for the
first five minutes we were together.
Once I spent some time sitting on the floor talking to him softly and
petting him, he began to see I was not going to hurt him and I could be
(somewhat!) trusted. However, he didn’t want to walk out the door of the vet's
office, let alone get in the car—and when we arrived home, he did not want to
leave the car for anything! That’s when we figured out that for all his fear of
people, he really responds well to other kindly dogs: I called on my older
Golden Zoe for help, and once Luke saw her, he had no problem getting out of the
car and coming in the house!
It’s been a few days
now, and he’s doing well indoors and, of course, loves his big sister Zoe. The
first night he just lay on the carpet and rubbed his face in it with delight.
He found a tennis ball, which is now his special prize, and he carries it
everywhere with him. He is on low
activity for ten days post-neuter so we can’t play a good game of fetch yet, but
you can tell he wants to! He’ll drop the ball at your feet, and if it rolls away
he will bring it back.
Luke needs a calm,
patient family who will give him time to learn that humans are his friends. We
are taking it one step at a time and have a positive feeling he is going to
blossom more with each day!
