Copper

Age: 6

MATCHED - FOSTER PEND ADOPT

Update 7/24/12:

A quick note from the family who stashed Copper overnight, before he moved to his likely forever home:

We had the joy of having Copper join our household just two days ago, and from the moment he walked in he felt like a part of the family.  He was greeted by 5 resident dogs, and was instantly their best friend.  He also met the 5 cats who reside here, and happily sniffed noses with them to say hi, but respected their space completely.

Copper is one of the calmest fosters we've ever had in the house.  He has easily followed the cues of the other dogs here to see what he's supposed to do.  He is wonderful with the other dogs, and will engage in some play with them for short periods of time.  His biggest goal, however, is to be with his people.  He comes over to us and buries his head in our laps and just loves to have his head and shoulders rubbed.  Likewise, he leans into our legs waiting to have the rest of his body rubbed!  His manners are impeccable, no jumping, no begging, walks like a perfect gentleman on the leash.

Copper loves his toys!  He loves his tennis balls, but doesn't like to play fetch with them or catch them, he just likes to carry them around.  He also loves his stuffies.  Unlike all the other dogs in my home, he never tries to shred them, he just likes to love on them.  When he has a toy in his mouth, he walks around showing it off to us, and making a little crying sound just to make sure we see him.  His tail wags nonstop, he is just happy all the time. When it's bedtime, he settles in next to the bed, and we don't hear a peep out of him until the morning.

He is the perfect, unflappable Golden.  He loves everyone, is completely gentle and patient, and is gorgeous to boot!  We could easily foster him forever!

Update 7/21/12:

PetFinders shelter posting: “Copper, a senior neutered male. Came to us July 5. He is a GREAT DOG! He is housebroken, neutered, trained and does NOT have Heartworms. He would love to spend the rest of his life curled up in your living room."

GRR intake team e-mail, July 16: “We should contact shelter today -- just got off the phone with the gal at the pound and she could not stop raving about Copper! Wonderful dog, so loving, housetrained, fine with other dogs. They would be delighted to release to rescue. He likely bolted during the fireworks on July 4 but they have had zero inquiries. Could we nab sooner rather than later? He sounds like an easy foster.”

E-mail after Copper’s vet visit, July 17: “I visited Copper at Tanglewood. Weight 68 pounds, good weight for him. Nails are very long. Extremely nice, nice, friendly dog. Dr Stried puts his age at about six, despite the gray face.”

At this writing, our matchmakers are busy getting dreamboat Copper set up for an adoptive home—he should be matched soon!
