Romeo
#12-166 Romeo, age 5
Weight: 30 pounds
MATCHED
Romeo is already matched to his adoptive home! Here is his story so far:
Proof that Golden things can come in tiny packages, sweet Romeo weighs in at
just 30 pounds. “He looks like a mini-version of the breed – anyone wanting a
compact ‘lap Golden’ will be delighted with him,” said the shelter director.
Found as a stray, this pretty little fellow is heartworm positive, anemic, and
recovering from a respiratory infection, but he still has the energy to get
bouncy and zippy in spurts with his foster mom. “He is very needy of affection
(of which he is getting plenty), very eager to please and to learn, very sweet.
LOVES grooming and brushing, even loved his bath. And he’s smart! We worked on
the SIT command and he went from zero at the start to about 75% compliance
pretty quick. He was unfamiliar with the leash, but quickly learned to tolerate
that.”
Once Romeo recovers from his respiratory
ailment, he’ll have neuter surgery, and after that, heartworm treatment –
but he’ll be able to get lots of quiet attention and fun during his
activity-restriction period, because he gets to go to work with mom. Lucky dog!
“He came with me to the chiropractic office where I work for the afternoon, and
did very well. After
exploring everything, he settled down under my desk, and was quite happy letting
patients meet him and pet him. He's
going to work out to be a great office dog!
He is shy with new people, especially adults; his first inclination is to
run away, but then he softens up and gives into their petting! With children, he
is not so shy and is more trusting.
Loves having them pet him.
“P.S. Another anecdote: I wanted
Romeo to be my companion dog, but this is ridiculous.
He is so stuck to my side, he follows me
into the shower and just sits there while I shower, then follows me back
out! At least we know he will always be clean!”
