Blondie, age 2 1/2
AVAILABLE
“Average energy, super
loving, sweet, affectionate. Shy at first meeting & generally very aware &
cautious of her surroundings & people. Warms up quickly, gets very submissive,
loves a belly rub! Gets excited about treats, becoming very outgoing &
energetic.”
And add to that, she’s
cute, dainty, pocket-sized (only 37 pounds) and has the most adorable fluffy
ears ever (you can tell there’s a hint of something “exotic” in her pedigree).
Yes, young Blondie is definitely a prize!
Blondie came to us from
the shelter—but not directly. Instead, she was being fostered for the shelter by
a wonderful family, because, as her foster mom explained, “Blondie was rescued
as a stray and was very timid in the shelter environment. She would cower from
new people and cringe any time we reached for her.
She was originally shy of my husband but that subsided in the 3 weeks we
fostered her, though she sometimes still startles
you make a fast movement toward her. But her confidence has grown
exponentially and I believe she will continue to improve in a loving and secure
environment.”
Mom was right! In her
GRR foster home, Blondie is doing great. She IS just teenager, so she tends to
jump around when excited or to ask for attention, but her foster family is
working hard to teach her “four on the floor” before petting. She’s super with
all the other dogs in the home: a litter of foster pups; a 1 1/2-year-old
Golden, who’s her partner for tug, chase, and general charging around; and a
grumpy 7-year-old Beagle, whom she respects appropriately. As far as cats go,
she growls and chases – but her foster mom says, “She seems more curious and
interested than aggressive.”
Miss Blondie is a good
car rider once she’s settled in – entering the car makes her a bit tense. She’s
really good on leash, only pulling a little bit, and that just at the start of
her walk.
Indoors, she’s nice &
calm, settles down & relaxes,
doesn't try to get onto furniture even if invited. Gets very excited during food
prep, but she doesn’t counter-surf or go foraging in wastebaskets. Loves to chew
appropriate things: rawhide, raw bones with marrow, stuffed toys. What a good
girl!
“She seems very
comfortable & at home here. Loves everyone in the family. Loves her walks with
foster Golden pal! Not a mean bone in her body; pure sweetheart of a dog. She’d
do best with an active family and would benefit from being involved in outdoor
family fun, especially daily walks. She needs a loving, secure environment so
she can continue to build her confidence. I’d say that if there are kids in the
home, they should be mature enough
to respect & understand her need for calm, slow approaches. Other friendly dogs
would be great. Blondie is so worthy of a perfect home!”
