Oscar
Oscar, age 7
AVAILA![]()
Meet Oscar the
Outstanding! At 7 years old, he’d lived most of his life with one couple. Then,
this past December, the husband passed away—and the wife couldn’t handle the
family’s four dogs all on her own. She asked friends to take Oscar, and they
agreed, but didn’t realize that Goldens need to live indoors & be a part of the
family. With tiny kids and busy schedules, they just didn’t have time for
Oscar—and he found himself living as a lonely yard dog. Luckily, however, his
next-door neighbor is a dog lover; and just as Oscar’s owners were deciding that
they really needed to give the big dog a better life, she was making up her mind
to offer her help. Perfect timing! By just a few days later, Oscar had moved in
next door. His new friend put out the word that the handsome Golden needed a new
home, and a chain of several contacts soon led to GRR.
This big fellow is a
peach of a dog with a lovely disposition. He’s friendly and gentle even with
tiny children, and when our intake evaluator arrived to meet him, “He came right
up to me at the door and sat down in front of me as I talked to him and played
with him. Gave me a kiss on the cheek and let me rub him all over, scratch his
chin, look in his mouth—and this was in the first ten minutes after we met! He’s
not shy at all.”
Unfortunately Oscar does
have heartworms (we think that nobody ever realized he should be getting HW
preventive), but other than that he seems in good shape. He’s being treated for
mild ear infections and gets rave reviews for his good behavior as regards his
ear drops: “He sits there like a statue and lets me instill the drops and rub
them in.”
All in all -- what a
great dog! Laidback, mellow, friendly, tolerant. After the lonely time he’s had
the past seven months, he’s just delighted to be inside with the people and
getting attention. "He loves getting pats and will wag his tail if you even you
look his way. Very cute!”
Oscar has just moved
into his foster home, so we should have more information on him soon.
