Bowan

Bowan, age 6

AVAILABLE SOON

Updated 6/17/11

Bowan! Yep, that’s my name. I come when I’m called—and I’m happy to be called, especially for a meal or a snack, or to be let out, or to get petted, you name it… One of my brothers is named Max and I come when his name is called, too.

Overall, I’m a pretty happy, easy-going guy. I like short walks, being combed, eating, and any kind of attention. I like to help my foster daddy in the kitchen; his hobby is cooking, and the best thing is: he is kind of messy! He drops food on the floor, which I then help clean up.

I get along with all my roommates, all four of them. Murphy, one of the Irish setters, is a bit strange, but I learned right away to pay attention to him and not get in his way, since he needs lots of room to maneuver. I also like children, and I tend to move slowly around them so as to not knock them over.  I have beautiful dark red hair; in fact, I am almost as dark as my Irish setter brothers.

I do not play much, but I do like to spend lots of time with people. I will follow you around and sit with you. While some Goldens are ball-nuts, I am considerate of you and give my full attention to people. So, if you want a dog that will be loyal, friendly, and just plain yours—please consider ME – Bowan!!

Updated 6/15/11

Handsome Bowan has settled into his foster home without a blip. Totally housetrained, he’s free to roam wherever he pleases  and hasn’t caused a bit of trouble. He’s a calm, quiet fellow who doesn’t play much with the other dogs. He DOES like people, though, and he really likes brushing. He even did well with having his foster dad clip out matted fur here and there.

Given the heat, Bowan hasn’t been out on leash much, and so far he’s not too interested in retrieving… but he is still recovering from neuter surgery, so his energy will likely pick up (and of course, a cold front wouldn’t hurt, either!).

Anyone looking for a calm, affectionate, handsome Golden companion will be delighted with Bowan.

Updated 6/7/11

Anyone suffering from double  vision?? We think we might be! In just the first week of June, we’ve taken in three pairs of Goldens. Sister and brother Mandy and Gary came into care on June 1,  and sisters Phoebe & Sophie, as well as Brylee & her friend Bowan, all arrived on June 6.

When a friendly pair of Goldens bustled into the Good Samaritan’s garage on May 29, it seemed obvious they’d just escaped from a backyard close by. Or maybe they belonged to someone visiting from out of town over the Memorial Day holiday; or maybe their family was away for the long weekend, and a baby sitter had let them get out? With their shiny fur, trimmed paws, newish collars, and overall healthy look, they just HAD to belong to someone. The finders promptly popped the dogs into the car and took a slow drive around the neighborhood, fully expecting to see an anxious owner looking up and down the street. Nobody. Later that evening, they repeated the performance, this time walking the boy-and-girl pair and knocking on doors; but nobody had ever seen the dogs before. Next up was a trip to the vet to check for microchips (nope), postings on Craigslist and Man & Beast, and calls to every vet and shelter within a 5- to 10-mile radius. Nothing.

And that’s how Bowan and his pal Brylee came to GRR… after completing a stray hold at the shelter.

At around six years old, Bowan has a gorgeous, shiny, deep auburn coat and just the beginnings of gray on his face: he’s a distinguished-looking gent! He’s friendly and social, and he’ll be ready for his new family just as soon as he recuperates from his neuter surgery.

We’ll have more details on Bowan’s personality soon!
