August 2003

Charlie
was a stray, rescued by good Samaritans who called GRR. He was adopted in May
2002 and has had a wonderful life. On August 11, 2003, his baby sister Lily was
born. Charlie had no idea what he had been missing. He fell in love at first
sight. We think Lily will grow up to be a golden lover, what do you think?
Zac
is doing great! What a gift he has been to us. He was a bit timid at first, but
his confidence has increased steadily over time. At this point, he knows he is
at home and loves his daily routine. Zac is a bit more reactive that our first
dog, but challenges him with athleticisim. In fact, our future plans for Zac
include agility training. We also are planning to get both dogs trained for pet
therapy. With think that "Golden Retriever Attitude" could add some happiness to
people who could use it.

Rookie (the lighter colored dog) and Zac (the darker) have become the best of
friends. One of the concerns we had in bringing in a second dog was how the
first would react. It has been nothing but positive. We had our challenges in
the beginning as the two males tried make their claim as to who was more
dominant. This subsided after a few weeks. They now are constantly at each
others side. Each of them use their talents to push the other one.
We
have enjoyed adding Zac to our active lifestyle. We recently took the dogs on a
two night backpacking trip. They loved it. They played all day to the point of
exhaustion. On both nights they both gladly went into the tent with us and went
to sleep (one small exception when a critter came close enough to the tent to
wake them up. Only minimal damage to the new tent). We have also taken them both
to the lake several times. Zac loves the water and will retrieve anything
thrown.
We are very happy and thankful to everyone at GRR for allowing us to get Zac. He
is a great addition to our family.
Logan
and Brio are doing great! We
adopted Logan in April of 2002. He was our first foster dog and I think he was
in foster care for all of 11 days. He was too precious to let go! Logan
was a stray, so we know little about his past. In general, he seems to like the
good life: cold A/C, plush dog beds, Greenies and being the center of attention.
He doesn't seem to retrieve, or at least see the point in it. He likes to nap,
to cuddle with me on the couch when we watch movies and sleeping on our heads
when there's a thunderstorm. He enjoys our morning walks and wrestling with his
sister Brio.

We adopted Brio in August of 2002. We picked her up the day after she had
heartworm treatment at the vet. We think she would have come home with anybody!
She was a little overweight and her coat was not in the best shape, having not
received her thyroid medicine for a year and a half. What a difference a year
makes! She is just beautiful now, with silky red coat and trim physique. And
such energy! I can barely keep up with her on our morning walks. It's hard to
believe she just turned 7 on August 13th.
She
diligently guards the house while we're at work. She has some favorite posts:
the windows overlooking the backyard and the chair we have set-up in our study
that lets her see out of the window into our front yard. She knows every
squirrel, toad and bug that enters her yards, not to mention the neighboring
cats. She's our nature girl, content to spend all day outside if we're working
in the yard. She even likes the pool I got her this summer. Logan won't go near
it! But her most favorite activity is to go for a car ride. She tries to come to
work with me every morning when I leave.
We are so blessed to have Brio and Logan and thankful to GRR for placing them
with us. We can't imagine our lives without them. Our families keep asking us
when we're going to have kids and I just don't know...I'm too in love with my
Goldens right now!

Scott, Brio & Logan
OUR
SWEET, SWEET NELLI
Just
wanted to thank GRR so much for bringing Nelli into our lives. Providing a
foster home for a Golden
in need was just what we needed to fill the void by the passing of our two
beloved “kids.” Just when you think you could never find a Golden who could
possibly meet the expectations left by the legacy of those who have passed,
along comes another Golden who has something totally unique to offer. Nelli has
exceeded our expectations and she never ceases to amaze us with her antics,
love, devotion and affection. To see how far she has come from the day you
dropped her off is a miracle and so very rewarding; we love her so much!
Attached
are pictures of our beautiful girl; you probably won’t recognize her!
We eagerly await our next foster; what a rewarding experience it has been thus
far!
With best regards,
Micki,
Robb & Nelli Miller
