November 2005:
We have the best park and trail that I get to walk on every night. It is full of action with people running and other dogs playing. I look forward to that walk everyday. Already I have been to Barton Creek and also up to Dallas. At my grandma’s house I got to swim in my very own pool. I also got to meet my cousin Sugar, who took my toy which I didn’t like, but we got to lick and sniff each other which was fun. On Saturday I went on a play date with my new friend Bevo. We played in the lake and raced to retrieve our toys. It was so much fun. I love the water and I think I can jump the farthest any dog has ever jumped.
I have eaten a few shoes and a remote which I now know are off limits, but in general I have been a very good boy. I always go straight to bed when my parents go to sleep and I wait patiently for them to wake up before I give them their good morning kisses. Also, I always make sure to do my business outside, which my mom loves. My good heart and loving nature makes my mom give me lots of hugs and tons of petting.
Thank you so much for putting me in such a loving home. I am the luckiest dog in the world and my parents feel very blessed to have me. We are a perfect match. Your hard work has made another success story.
Love Bailey
PS My mom lost her camera, but she promises more pictures will come.

Kojak/Flappy
was adopted in July 2005. Here’s an update from his new home:
Thank you for calling and emailing Harry and me to check in on Kojak. Before I go any further, Kojack is no longer Kojak, he now goes by "Flapjack" a.k.a. "Flappy" or "Happy Flappy"; he will respond to all three. Kojak was a very burly name and it instantly seemed inappropriate to us, so we changed it to something that sounded similar so that he could recognize his name easily.
Now I can get in to the good stuff.... and boy has it been good since Flapjack entered our lives. When we originally traveled to Austin to visit him at his foster home we were told that he was very skittish and afraid of cars. We knew instantly that we were going to take him home, but we were anxious about the drive back to Houston. Flappy's transformation began instantaneously. As soon as he saw his brother, Tex (a 2 1/2-year-old Golden), jump into the car, Flappy followed immediately thereafter. The two of them have been inseparable ever since. There was no period of adjustment. He quickly learned how to walk and potty on a leash, and he had only 2 accidents in the house. He doesn't chew on anything other than his massive supply of stuffed animals and he chews on Tex all day long. Tex and Flap play all day, when are around and even we we aren't. They play fight, run after tennis balls, and play chase with each other. Flappy has complete reign over the house, we totally trust him, but mostly because he never strays from Tex. Flap sleeps with us and Tex in bed, always on his back with his legs totally up in the air.
His skin condition from when we first got him has been treated and is no longer an issue. His yeast infections in his ear are gone, and he is 100% healthy. In fact, the foster family predicted he would be small, they didn't predict he would weigh more than 45 lbs. I am happy to report that Flap weighed in yesterday at 70 lbs. He isn't fat or chubby, he has just filled out. He was so skinny and malnourished when we first got him. We get compliments every day about how beautiful his coat is! He is the most handsome Golden Retriever! He has the sweetest disposition and absolutely understands what he has been through and is so appreciative for everything he has been given. His face says, "thank you.” He is a lover, he just wants to be around us, and he loves to play, but most of all he loves going outside. Harry and I both work, but I come home for lunch every day and run them around the block twice and then once I get home we run around the block once an hour. Flap instantly knows, "let's go outside" he starts hopping because he is so excited. He is wonderful with people, babies and kids.
I could go on for hours. Harry and I both had reservations about adopting a rescue. We were worried that the dog would have health or behavioral issues due to its history. We were also both worried about getting a dog that wasn't a puppy, we were worried we wouldn't bond with the dog. Let me tell you, we will never buy a puppy again. From now on, all of our family additions will be rescues. I can't tell you how in love we are with Flappy, and how lucky we are to have found him through your organization. He has brought so much joy to our lives. Harry and I will spend the rest of Flap's life trying to give him as much love as he has given to us.
Thank you from the bottom of all of our hearts!
Jordan, Harry, Tex and Happy Flappy
