Hannah (02/08/01)

Editor’s Note:  An update on Hannah (now Shirley) adopted just before Christmas.  She had to go through Heartworm treatment and was fortunate enough to be able to recuperate in beautiful CO where she will now spend 3 months in the winter and 3 months in the summer with her new Mom and canine sister Lady:

While I was going through the Christmas photos, finally, I saw one of Shirley, being totally doted on by my granddaughter Scarlett and two of her friends.  I remember the scene now; the girls were talking to Shirley, and saying how much they wanted her to be their friend.  It was so cute!

I took Shirley today for the first time to the cross-country track behind the school.  I have been taking Lady forever, but have let Shirley "rest" until today, due to the heartworm and spaying.  I ski on my skate skis (a REAL workout), and the dogs run a little ahead in the snow, and have a blast.  They see lots of friends, keep running back to see me, and generally have so much fun you can see it in their faces.  We are in what is an open pasture when there is no snow.  The Nordic council sets a cross-country track there in winter.  There is a little creek running alongside, and the highway is way above our heads, and fenced off besides.  The track goes in a circle, and by the time we are at the end of the circle, they are panting, and staying right with me.  Shirley liked it so much, she wanted to go around again, but I took her home, and she fell asleep in the car.  It was great for her, and the whole time, I wished you and Susy could have seen her.  It was a joy. Thank you for helping me to help her. We are all happy.
