Suna
4/10/13:
I will always treasure the time I spent with my sweet Suna. It was much
too short. She was such a little lady. I loved her so much.
Unfortunately, she had severe hip dysplasia and spinal stenosis and was
not a candidate for surgery. She was placed on Novox, Coseqin and fish oil with
fairly good pain control. Eventually she required more and more pain medication.
She then began water treadmill therapy and cold laser treatments in addition to
platlet injections. The results were amazing! She seemed better than ever, once
again playing with her stuffed animals and enjoying her walks and rides in the
Jeep and requiring much less pain medication.
Suddenly on Friday night, April 5th our world came crashing down. After speaking
with my Vet, I rushed her to the Animal Emergency Hospital. Her heart rate was
sustaining in the 200's. A X-Ray detected fluid in her abdomen. A paracentesis
revealed blood tinged fluid. My vet, Dr. Mouser was informed.
Saturday morning showed no improvement. Her heart rate remained 170's-200 and
low B/P. she was then transported to Dr. Mouser's office. Another X-ray revealed
a large amount of fluid around her heart. A sonogram was done only to reveal the
heart breaking diagnosis of Hemangiosarcoma. It was decided to spare her any
further suffering and let her go in peace, surrounded by people who loved her.
My heart is broken, but I will always be grateful to GRR for allowing me to be
Suna's mom. Everyone loved my Suna but none as much as me.

That’s Suna… as in guaranteed to be adopted “Suna” rather than later!

This 6-year-old sweetheart has moved around a bit lately. Her early years are a bit of a mystery, but we do know she lived with one family from young adulthood until about 6 months ago. At that point, an overseas posting meant they had to give up their pets, so Suna moved on to a new home in the Killeen area. One problem with that: this otherwise calm gal really stresses at the sound of gunfire & target practice—and there’s a fair amount of that where she was living. She likewise hates thunder. Her new family was taken aback, as their own Golden had been a hunting dog, and completely indifferent to storms to boot. They decided that a new home would be best for Suna… and put in a call to GRR.
“A total low-key love muffin,” said the GRR intake evaluator—and Suna’s foster family agrees. She’s trustworthy loose in the house, gentle and sweet with kids, and very calm with other dogs, too, though she does play well with them. She’s a good car rider and “great!” on the leash.
Suna does like to investigate the trash basket! She likes to be close to the kitchen table or wherever food might be, but she doesn’t try to take it right off the table. However, if it happens to drop on the floor she will politely clean it up for you.
“Suna is such a sweet dog,” says her foster mom. “She has fit in extremely well with a family of 3 children and another dog. I was just commenting to my husband that we haven't had any issues fostering her - she's been a pleasure. We DO have a constant battle for the couch—she does not really take ‘no’ for an answer & obviously believes that is a good place for her! She also likes to spend part of the night sleeping in our daughter’s bed. Suna would do great with a family with children provided they aren't expecting a super-active dog. She would also make a nice pet for empty-nesters. If you want a great companion who just wants to be loved—Suna is your dog!”
