Sweet Pea

Age: 12 Weeks

Available October 10th

Updated 10/5/11

Sweetpea and her sister Buttercup are fostering together—and foster mom is working hard! Of course, the pups think THEY are working hard, too. All that playing, investigating new things, bouncing around, eating, napping, playing some more, trying to figure out housetraining…. it’s a full day, every day!

Foster mom has these notes:

Sweetpea has spunk and then some! She's typical for her age—into absoutely everything. She’s very curious and enjoys exploring and hanging out where the humans are. She loves to nip toes and ankles and shoes… better invest in a few extra pairs of shoelaces if you plan to invite her into your home!  Sweetpea adores other dogs—in fact, the older dogs sometimes get a bit fed up with this fluffy little pest. Luckily, she has an always-willing play partner in Buttercup; they rough-and- tumble for hours on end. Sweetpea is crazy about people,  and will zip around getting attention from everyone. As far as she is concerned, EVERYONE is there to be engaged with (and possibly pounced on)—including the cat, who is not too thrilled. We’re working on that.

Housetraining is coming along, though Sweetpea is not catching on quite as fast as Buttercup. She isn’t as docile in the crate, either, tends to fuss a bit. We’re working on that, too!

Sweetpea is definitely an outgoing, bold and brave girl. She has tons of energy; in fact, if her energy level now is indicative of her energy level as an adult, she’ll definitely need someone who’s looking for an active dog—and for a very smart, inquisitive, and playful one who needs plenty of fun training and activity to keep her mind occupied. She's not hyper but she's probably not going to be a couch potato Golden either. Puppy classes would be wonderful  for her once she’s had all her vaccinations and can go out and about with other dogs. She’ll make a great companion for someone!

A BOUQUET OF SPRING FLOWERS —— JUST IN TIME FOR FALL!!
Buttercups, sweetpeas, violets and jasmine…. in SEPTEMBER? That’s exactly right! Not as unusual as it sounds when you take into account that THESE pretty blossoms are  adorable Golden puppies. All four girls were brought to the same South Texas shelter as strays, but beyond that, we don’t have a clue where they came from… or even if they all came from the same place. (Maybe from a backyard breeder clearing out the excess “inventory”?) They’re all young, but two of them (sisters Buttercup and Sweet Pea) are tiny, just 7 or 8 weeks old. Fine-boned, dainty Violet is a bit older, maybe 10 to 12 weeks; and Jasmine is the oldest, at 4 or 5 months.

The poor girls needed a bath in the worst way, which they soon got—after which they smelled just as flowery-fresh as their names and looked too cute for words—as you can see!

Here’s a little more:

Buttercup and Sweetpea are just your typical crazy puppies, running all over the place, rough-and-tumble. They will play tug-o-war with whatever they can find and are an absolute riot to watch. They settle in nicely, though, when you pick them up to love on them.  They love to give kisses.  They are very, very blonde, and even their ears are light in color, so we suspect they will stay pretty blonde. Who could possibly resist those ravishingly pretty little faces with their black shoe-button noses, glowing dark eyes, and bright, lively expressions?
