Isis

Isis, age 6

AVAILABLE SOON HW POSITIVE

Updated 9/15/11

She’s still perfect… well, in MANY ways! But as is often the case, as the dog relaxes & really settles in, the former Golden Angel begans showing a few devilish traits. It’s all about balance, right? Adorable Miss Isis just cannot resist checking out those kitchen counters, and she IS a “chatty” one when she gets excited. Her foster mom reports:

I think this little girl is feeling better! She has taken a few things off the counter. If I leave the pantry open, she'll help herself to olive oil (just a small bottle), bread crumbs, & boxes of rice. I think she wants me to bake her a casserole or something! She has gotten hold of a remote control, the cat’s bed (had to replace it) and has shredded up a newspaper. We no longer leave her alone without a peanut butter–filled Kong and and stimulating toys. She's pretty calm in the house with us. She has the usual excitement when we get up in the morning and when we return home. We just ignore the excited barking whenever she does it, and it seems to have subsided some. But she definitely is on the “talkative” side (so is her brother Troy.. must run in the family).

Isis is VERY sweet with children. She'll curl up next to my nieces and nephew on the sofa and put her head in their laps so she can get some loving. (She loves, loves, loves attention.) She NEVER jumps, and she takes treats like a dainty little lady. She’s social with other dogs, but not much into vigorous play.  She absolutely loves our kitten, Alfred. I think whoever adopts Isis will need to take Alfred, too! ha! Kidding! She likes to treat Alfred like her puppy & lick him... it's very sweet.

Isis adores the car, and she’s just as good on lead. Doesn’t pull or drag you off so she can sniff something. She’s focused on the view and just enjoys herself.  In fact, when she’s at home, squirrel watching is a favorite activity. Too bad those paws can’t grasp a pair of binoculars… she’d be in heaven.

She's a very good sleeper. We'll tell her to lie down on her bed at the foot of ours and she'll stay there all night until we invite her up on our bed for morning belly rubs! She gets a little rambunctious and rolls around a bit and those flailing paws are everywhere, but she’ll quickly settle.

She’s just about done with heartworm treatment. On one visit, an X-ray revealed buckshot under her skin on one side! It isn’t causing any issues though

Isis is a sweetheart. She loves to curl up close for some love. She and our Golden Brick like to curl up together, too. It's very sweet!  Funny habits? She burps. It makes me laugh out loud!  I think she'd be happy in a home with multiple pets. Kids are fine—but she she’ll really thrive with as much human companionship as possible!

What a wonderful girl! Isis’s foster parents send this report:

Fully housetrained, reliable when left alone, doesn’t jump at all, takes treats like a lady,  great in the car, very good on the leash—doesn’t pull, but really enjoys herself. She’s very social—with everyone. She’s just wonderful with children, calm and friendly; she even curled up on the sofa next to our friends’ 5-year-old daughter. And she absolutely loves our kitten, Alfred.  She likes to treat him like her pup, and they even sleep together.  It’s so adorable!

Isis loves to retrieve, but that’s on hold for a couple of months as she goes through HW treatment.

She likes to vocalize when we get up in the morning and when we come home.   It's usually related to feeding time and outside time.  When she first arrived, she pawed at us for attention.  That behavior has disappeared… since she’s getting loads of love and attention : )  She does sometimes try to crawl on us on the sofa, but we discourage that behavior.  She won’t steal from the counter, but her nose gets close!  She likes to snack in the litter box, so  we’ve blocked her access—problem solved.

Isis is very good with the ball and toys.  We have a KONG Wobbler Dog Treat Dispenser and Feeding Toy and she’ll grab hold of it and carry it around and even bring it up on the sofa!  Those things are heavy!

Overall, Isis is happy, active, outgoing, friendly, and loves to chase squirrels.  She can be vocal when she’s excited, but she’s doing much better lately as we try to redirect her focus when she gets worked up.  She’s super sweet, and she’s a smart puppy, too—what a great combination!

Isis and her friend Troy were surrendered to GRR by a caring owner who realized the six-year-old duo needed more medical care than she could provide… and on top of that, when the dogs were out in the yard, she was having a real problem with neighbors opening the gate and letting them out to wander. It was time to find them somewhere safe and secure.

Both Troy and Isis have heartworms, so they’ll soon start treatment. Meanwhile, Isis is having a blast in her foster home. A soft place to sleep, a cool pool, and lots of attention—“ah, this is the life!” she says.  Her foster mom reports:

Isis is settling in well here with us. She and our Golden Brick are getting along well. She's been nonstop since she arrived, checking things out. She even took a dip in our pool!  She's a cutie, for sure.  Playful, vocal and loves to watch the squirrels in the yard.  We've been walking her in the mornings to try to get her stimulated in other ways.  I attached a photo I took last night;  she likes to sleep in my office with me while I'm working.  Very cute!

Isis will start her heartworm treatment soon, on July 18th. Stay tuned for updates!
