Debra was concerned about Hannah’s situation. Her owner had moved to a
no-big-dogs apartment, and that left Hannah out in the cold (or more accurately,
out in the heat): still at an empty house, alone in the backyard. And when Debra
learned that the 7-year-old girl had been living that way for quite some time,
she sent out a red-flag e-mail asking if we could take action at once.
That was just what Hannah’s owner wanted! He visited her
whenever he could, and a neighbor fed & watered her a couple of times a day, but
he hadn’t been able to find a new home for his almost-senior Golden. Lonely and
starved for attention, she’d begun to bark at night, and he worried that someone
might call AC about a “nuisance dog.” Hannah needed to move.
Of course, this all happened on a Saturday, but GRR
volunteers are used to working weekends! Within just a few hours, foster mom
Candy headed out to the house and loaded the grateful Golden into her car. (How
grateful was she? Well, she kissed Candy and her son all the way back to her new
foster home.)
In foster care, Miss Hannah is just a dream. In less
than one hour, she fit right in with a pack of three other Goldens. “She loves
Mason, is respectful of Abby and wants to hang out with blind Zoee.” She DOES
want to be close to you all the time—understandable,
given her former situation—so she will jump up and put her front paws on
your chest while she tries to give you kisses. She is a petite little thing,
though, so no danger of getting knocked over! She’s not
interested in balls or plushies.
She would rither get love pats and sit right in your lap.
As you might expect, Hannah is in heaven getting lots of
attention (that big smile says it all!). And of course she’s beyond thrilled to
be living indoors at last. She loves the A/C and has decided that she likes to
sleep on the cool tile floor by the front door. Ahhh, does that feel good on a
hot summer day!
Hannah loves to be brushed, and “I used the furminator
to get 2 bags of undercoat and loose fur off her,” says Candy. Like many
Goldens, though, Hannah is a bit fussy about having her pants and tail messed
with. Slow and steady should conquer that problem—an occasional
light stroke of her tail when you’re
brushing the rest of her, and eventually she’ll be fine.
Little Hannah is healthy and has great spirit. She’s
active for her age. She’s so full of love and ready to make some family very
happy.
