Short, chunky, and
oh-so-nice, 5-year-old Katherine was found wandering stray in an open field. We
know she must have belonged to someone once—for one thing, she’d been shaved a
while back, and her fur is still growing out. But nobody came to the shelter to
claim her, so she became our first GRR dog for the month of May. Was she ever
glad to get out of the pound! Not that everyone wasn’t nice to her, but the
environment just made her worried and anxious. What a relief to hop into a new
friend’s car and drive away! She settled right down and enjoyed the view out the
rear window all the way to the clinic.
Besides a much-needed
pedicure and a bath-and-groom
(including a few quick snips to get rid of
mats in her tail), Katherine had spay surgery and the usual bloodwork.
Darn it! She is heartworm positive. At least she’s not a wild & crazy gal, so
activity restriction shouldn’t be TOO hard on her.
“We REALLY like her,”
said the clinic staff. And you will, too! She’ll be through with HW treatment
around the middle of July.
The very early report
from her foster mom: “She’s a beautiful girl! Very soft and fluffy after her
bath. She knows SIT and she is having a good time exploring the house; suspect
she was a house dog at some point
in the past.” Watch this space for updates as we learn more about Katherine…
