Alice, age 1 1/2
Adorable Alice was hardly
in Wonderland when we first met her. She’d had a rough time of it—a litter of
pups in the last 4 months or so, then life on the road for who knows how many
weeks, until, one hot spring day, she was caught in a “dog trap,” collected by animal control, and
taken to the pound.
Luckily, the staff
promptly checked their contact list, put in a call to GRR, and sent a photo—and
even though it showed Alice behind bars, there’s no hiding just how darling she
is!
The very next day it was
“through the looking glass” and presto! into the back seat of comfy van,
positioned beneath a stream of deliciously cool air and barreling down the
highway to freedom. The cute red girl was all tuckered out from her recent
ordeal
and gratefully snoozed as the
miles rolled past… but at a rest stop, she happily socialized with a bunch of
little kids and gave her “chauffeur” lots of kisses: “Thank you for bailing me
out!”
The vet guesses this little
50-pounder
is only about a year or two
old. She is heartworm negative but had both hookworms and whipworms (and those
are already just about a thing of the past).
“Sweet and pretty!” said
the admiring clinic staff.
“At first she was a little
shy and timid,” says her foster mom. “But as she settles in, she has developed
quite a personality. She’s operating on all cylinders now, and she and my Golden play throughout the day.
She is confident, playful, interactive, and VERY sweet. She loves dogs and
people too, and when she isn’t playing, she wants to be by my side with one paw
on me! She’s a real lover and cuddler, likes to sit beside me & will even
press her cheek up against mine.”
Amazingly, young Alice is
housetrained, stays calm and good for grooming, and sleeps peacefully through
the night. She would do fine being in a home with other dogs or being the only
dog—just as long as her family can give her lots of play and LOTS of love and
affection.
