Krispy
Krispy, age 6-9 months
Updated 1/13/12
Hi! It’s me, Krispy. I’m happy to report that my foster family decided I’m just too cute and charming, so they adopted me. Seems lots of people questioned if I was a true golden retriever, and to settle the debate, my family had a DNA test done. Turns out I’m all golden, yep, 100%. Something called an English cream….doesn’t that sound yummy? Anyway, I’ve grown in the past few months and have a silky thick blonde coat.
My parents are the outdoorsy type, so we go kayaking and swimming a lot. I love the water, and I’ve started competing in something called Dock Diving. My “sister” Aspen competes, too, and we have fun running down the dock and exploding into the water. What I lack in speed, I make up for with my beautiful arching dive.
The whole family likes to walk – twice a day. I’m not an early riser, so I typically skip the early morning walk. Since my dad takes all of us to work --yep, all four dogs head into downtown Austin everyday – I take strolls around downtown throughout the day. See why I sleep in?
As I’ve grown up, I haven’t lost my love of kids, dogs, cats, and even the rabbit that lives at my house. My puppy exuberance still embraces everybody, and my manners are perfect. That’s one of the things my family loves about me. They can take me anywhere, and do, because I’m a good boy.
I get to go on my first hiking trip this March. We’re going to Asheville, NC (wherever that is) to play in the national forests. I hear there’s water there, too! It sounds like so much fun. I’ll let you know how I liked it after I get back.
Happy New Year everyone!
Love,
Krispy
I just read the story my foster mom wrote about me. Really?? That’s all she had to say? Humph! Not impressed, so I decided to write my own story.
I’m young, adorable, full of charisma, smart, and talented… if I do say so myself. The vet thinks I’m 6 months old, but who knows, so just call me a puppy. I’m not a chewing, destroying machine. Nope, that’s not me. I sleep all night baby-gated in the bathroom on my comfy dog bed, and every morning my mom and dad find everything all nice and tidy. I love my deer antlers and baked bones for chewing. Occasionally, I might wander by a trash can and pull out some paper. Shredding paper is a lot of fun, but that’s the most destructive thing I’ve ever done. Pretty good for a young guy, huh?
Let’s talk about the adorable part. I have a beautiful platinum blonde coat, expressive eyes, and a handsome face. My looks are enhanced by my outgoing, bubbly personality. I’ll talk to you about whatever is on my mind, and people think that’s too cute! When there isn’t another dog to play with or I’m tired, I’ll crawl up in my foster mom or dad’s lap and ask for some lovin’. Because I’m small, I make the perfect golden lap dog! People love that, too!
And on the subject of love… I love kids! My foster parents just had a get-together and there were seven kids here, ages 2 to 8, along with seven dogs. We all played like hooligans in the yard. Dogs chased dogs and kids chased dogs. I was wonderful with everyone. My mom said I was “patient to a fault” (what?? I don’t HAVE faults, but that’s what she said!) with the kids and dogs.
Most puppies don’t understand boundaries and they have no fear, right? Why, they’ll run smack into trouble, but not me. I have to get the lay of the land before I go barreling into something. For example, yesterday I got to go swimming. Wasn’t sure about it at first, so I stood back a safe distance and watched the other dogs jumping and splashing. It looked like fun, but I couldn’t work up the nerve to jump in. My foster dad saw my hesitation and eased me into the water. With a little encouragement, I was swimming, too. Take a look at my picture! Don’t I look like a polar bear cub? Notice my golden retriever webbed feet? Mom thinks we should change my name to PolarJ
Charisma and talent! I’m loaded with both. Dogs like me, people like me, and I steal the show wherever I go. I’m smart, too! I’ve learned how to sit on command and will lie down when asked. Traveling in a car is one of my favorite things to do and my car manners are impeccable. Reading the signals from other dogs is one of my talents, too. If a dog tells me to back off, I respond right away. Don’t want to feel the sharp teeth of correction, no, sir! Look at my other new pictures and you’ll see how friendly I am to people and dogs. BTW, I’d really like another dog to play with in my new home.
Glad I got to tell you my story. If you’re looking for a sweet, happy, outgoing guy who is an eternal optimist, loves to go places and is friendly to everyone, then I’m your guy! I’m looking forward to meeting my forever family.

What comes in a 33-pound,
champagne-colored package and brings laughter and joy?
Say hello to Krispy, an almost-Golden who came to GRR from the San
Antonio Animal Shelter. It’s hard to believe anybody would let this youngster
go, but their loss (whether he strayed from home or was abandoned) will be
someone else’s gain.
At somewhere between 6
and 9 months old ( we honestly don’t know his exact age),
Krispy can still be pure puppy, liking nothing more than romping and
stomping with his dog friends. But he’s already got some grown-up brain cells
working, too! He’s actually quite well-behaved. He understands boundaries and
appropriate play; he can fly through the house, then settle down quietly when
the time comes. He walks well on leash, knows to sit on command, sleeps better
than a baby at night, and rides well in the car.
Krispy goes to work with
his foster dad every day, so he meets quite a few people. But he’s not a “get up
and want to be all over you” pup. When visitors come in, he’ll eventually go say
hi when it suits him (unless they have food—then it's a different story!).
He’s a confident little fellow and not the clingy, needy sort.
Saylor, the foster
family’s house rabbit, gave a loud “thump” that sent Krispy scurrying on his
first day in the house—so a confident cat would do fine with him. He might chase
a fleeing cat, though; after all, he is young and finding his way.
Krispy likes to talk!
When he wants something or something doesn’t suit him, he’ll just talk away.
It’s really cute. Lots of
people will love it!
If you’re looking for a
small guy (the vet doesn’t think he’ll get much bigger) who is smart, handsome,
and confident, then Krispy is your dog.
He would love another dog to play with; and like any young dog, he’ll do
best with someone who is home during the day and has the time to give him the
attention and training he needs.
