Nutty
Updated 4/17/11
Nutty and his sister Poppy are a pair of beautiful 4-year-olds who came to GRR when their owner found himself facing serious medical issues. He had to move from a big ranch property (ideal for big dogs) to a city apartment (not so ideal…)—and it was one of those high-speed surrenders, as we got the hotline call just a few days before the move. Luckily, a GRR family lives nearby and was able to scoop up the delightful duo, keep them overnight, and then take them to the vet for a check-up while we hunted up foster homes. The initial report could not have been better: “OMG!!! Heads up—these 2 will not be in foster care long. They are both gorgeous. A little overweight, but coats look good and the have beautiful teeth, believe it or not! Very well behaved; very social, friendly, love to give kisses. Not a single growl or bark and were instantly accepted by our pack of five. Everyone is getting along so well!”
Nutty’s foster home seconds that assessment—read on:
Nutty is his GRR official name.....but he answers to his original name, “Rusty.” He is a big beautiful boy.... just look at his pictures! Heartworm negative to boot !
He has had his adjustments to make, since he lost his first family, the only home he had ever known, and his sister all at once. The good news is that Nutty is doing great settling into his foster home. He is extremely affectionate (gives you all the kisses you want), lovable, and sweet-natured. He loves to roll in the grass, ride in the car, and cuddle on the couch.
Today he retrieved a ball for us and played with his new stuffed animal. We hope to see him play more and more. He is so gentle with everything—does not chew or even tear up anything. No accidents in the house. He likes to be brushed, petted, massaged and about anything else that gives him attention. He sleeps at the foot of our bed but he would rather be in the bed sleeping next to us!
Nutty wants to please and responds quickly to commands. He knows “sit,” “lie down,” and “stay,” and we are working on “shake paw.” He wants to please you! He is still nervous when we go out of the house without him, but he now will explore the house on his own. Just two days ago Nutty would not let us out of his sight. Progress! He definitely doesn’t like loud noises and will jump back if startled.
Nutty is gentle and receptive to both adults and other dogs . I’ll let you know about kids and cats, but I will be surprised to see anything but gentle behavior from this big boy.
We are feeding Nutty a healthy diet and taking him on walks; he needs to shed about ten pounds.
The only reason I can think to call him Nutty.... is how nutty you will be about this boy. He is a gem. What a lucky family it will be who adopts this delightful Golden and provides him the forever home he deserves !!
