Billy The Kid
Billy, age 1
AVAILABLE SOON![]()
Billy The Kid
Just like his namesake,
Billy the Kid is both notorious and beloved.
This handsome 1-year-old has acquired quite the reputation.
While undergoing heartworm treatment, he’s had to stay pretty calm and
quiet, which is definitely not his normal personality!
And when he looks for ways to release that pent-up energy, he manages to
get himself into all kinds of trouble.
Just like a typical youngster, this guy goes looking for things to get
into. You never know what he’s going
to bring into the living room—it might be a shoe, some newspaper, or socks that
were left on the bathroom floor.
When he (finally!) gets tired, he’s very happy to sack out on the couch, even
though he knows he isn’t supposed to be there.
He loves playing
with his foster dog brother and sister.
Now that he’s feeling better, wrestling is his favorite sport.
(As soon as he is cleared by the vet, he may try out for the Olympics!)
He would really like to play with and chase the cat, too, but she finds
him too big and scary. A loud and
unambiguous MEOW lets him know he’s gotten too rambunctious.
Billy is a
sweetheart. He can’t wait until you
get home and will sit at the front door wanting you to hurry up and come on in.
Since he hasn’t been allowed to run all out during the heartworm
treatment, he has learned to bring over a ball, back up and sit down, catch the
ball, and bring it back to do it again.
He’s happiest with a ball in his mouth and can’t wait until he can truly
run, play tag with his friends, and chase the ball until he’s pooped
Billy Boy has got it
all—looks, personality, and energy!
He can get along with anybody and would love a family to play with.

Just a quick update on
Billy…
He’s getting through his
heartworm treatment just fine. The only challenge is keeping this young guy
“calm” – ha! The better he feels, the rowdier he gets.
This guy almost has to be tied up to keep him quiet.
He loves to play—any time, anywhere, with anyone.
Someone named “Billy the Kid” ought to be more than willing to leap into a getaway car, but THIS Billy doesn’t like to get in. He doesn’t strongly resist, but he doesn’t jump in on his own, either. Once settled in, though, he rides along nicely.
The other day, frisky
Billy decided to try and run through a screen door.
He bounced off and surprised himself; he wasn’t at all sure what to think
about this. When I opened the screen
and indicated he could come on outside, he stopped at the doorway and put his
paw up first to see if there was anything there. Clever dog!

Does anyone know how to make a puppy happy? Play ball with him, love on him, and play ball with him some more!
Does anyone know how a puppy can make you happy? Play ball with him, laugh with him, curl up on the couch with him (or roll around on the floor with him), and love on him!
Billy the Kid is a fun-loving and super-lovable puppy. His favorite thing in the whole wide world is to play fetch. As long as you can keep throwing the ball, he’ll keep bringing it back. He’s also a good student… he’s learning how to sit, go into his crate, and walk on a leash. He’s completely housetrained and is allowed to roam freely in the house. He even sleeps through the whole night.
Billy loves to play with other dogs. He tries to play with the cat too, but she’s not at all interested. He would probably love to play with children too. In fact, he’d like nothing more than a family with kids who will love on him and play ball to his heart’s content.
Billy will be starting his heartworm treatment at the beginning of May, so his romping and fetching will have to go on hold for a couple of short months. But he’ll be free of activity restrictions by Independence Day (how appropriate!) and ready for his forev

A Hotline call from Atlanta, of all places, alerted us to this boy. The caller volunteers for a Golden rescue group in Georgia and regularly visits the Petango website—and she just happened to see a photo of Billy, who had turned up stray a few days earlier at a local shelter. When we checked with the shelter, sure enough they said “yes, we do have Billy here, and we would love for you to take him.”

At only one year old, Billy is already heartworm positive. But he has many other “positives,” too! He is a very friendly, very pretty boy with a narrower nose and a light-boned, smaller build; and with good food and care, his blonde coat will soon be soft and silky. You can touch him all over & he likes it; in fact, the more you touch and rub him, the happier he is. He’s the type who likes to “touch base” with his person regularly. He'll either lick you, lightly jump against you, or stand up on his hind legs & lightly lean against you. (It’s sweet—not pushy or annoying.)
He seems fine with other dogs, and with cats, too; in fact, when a kitty hissed at him at the shelter, he backed away in alarm.
He seems very calm for his age, though in part that may be due to the heartworms; as he gets healthier, we will see if his pep revs up a few notches. He rode great in the car. He is an overall sweetie and a really likable guy!
Billy will be starting his heartworm treatment soon, and should be ready for his permanent home in just a couple of months.
